Hi! My 6 month old daughter is usually a great eater but the last couple of weeks she has been very finicky, only eating 2-3 oz at a time, irriatable and sucking on her bottom lip. I have tried to see the "white caps" they tell you about but I can't see anything nor does she let me even touch her gums to see if they are swollen. On top of that she has been throwing up more frequently lately. My husband and I did have the flu this week but we didn't think she got it. She has had no fevers, still maintains the same routine (going to bed at 6pm, waking up at 6am--with one middle of the night feeding. which is rare since she use to sleep through the night). I gave her oatmeal one day and she ate it like a champ, then threw it up. The other day she had bananas and the same thing. Is this a sign of teething? ANy help would be appreciated, we have been pulling out our hair! Thank you!!

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your reponses! They were all helpful. First we have a dr's appt on Tuesday. However even better..she is back to normal, eating again, no more throwing up and being her cheerful, playful self! Maybe it was a bug??? Either way we are definately go to talk to the dr.
Thanks again!!

My daughter did not vomit when she cut her first teeth. She's 9 1/2 months now and still cutting teeth. I know a tooth is about to pop through because 1-3 weeks prior she is very irritable, her nose is constantly running and she gnaws on ANYTHING & EVERYTHING and drools like a MANIAC!!!!! Her sleep pattern alters sometimes too, but I think that's because she wakes up in pain. I use motrin or infant tylenol and orajel swabs which helps her mood a great deal :) I also let her chew on freeze pops (still in the package of course). The cold gives her a lot of relief.
BUT...of course as "they" always say, if you have any questions or concerns, it's best to call your PED. I'd be concerned about the vomitting too. My daughter had reflux since 2 weeks old and I was back & forth to the Dr at least once a week for a month & a half! What a nightmare!
Good luck!!!

I know it's not common to throw up while teething, but one of my sister's kids threw up every time before she was about to cut a tooth. I can remember my sister calling me very concerned about this. But she soon realized, as time went on, that this was do to her teething. So it's possible.

Not eating is defiantly a sign that your child could be teething. Their teeth hurt so bad that some kids loose their appetite. When my daughter would be cutting a tooth, she wouldn't eat for almost two days. She would also be up 3-4 times in the middle of the night just crying. She also got this horrible bottom rash the day her tooth would cut through. Lot's of signs to show she was teething. All these would last no longer than 2 days. Then she would be back to her normal routine self.

But I would just contact your doctor just to make sure. How long has she been doing this for?? A couple days, or weeks?

Neither of mine had those symptoms when teething, I'd call your ped.
