This year my kiddos & I would like to give some "green" gifts. For example, today we got my sister a reusable cup sleeve for her Starbucks runs.On Etsy.com, I found a crafter who makes adorable reusable sandwich & snack bags. What other great "green" items have you spotted that would be useful & not terribly expensive?

What can I do next?

Thanks so much for all the fabulous ideas, ladies!! I put One Trip Tote on my list!! :)

I'm an avid Goodwill shopper, love the deals (found Play-do set for my son there) & the cause. My daughter plans to make a few frames for all her "artwork".

Thanks again & Happy "Green" Holidays to you & yours!!

Reusable shopping bags, reusable produce bags, cloth napkins, cloth paper towels, cloth or crocheted swiffer covers, washable scrubbies. All of those things can be found on ETSY

i buy all of my stuff for my home "green" lol. i love it. so, since i am shopping there anyway i am going to buy some naturally based chap sticks for stocking stuffers, maybe some natural sugar scrubs or make-up!

i do like the reusable shopping bag idea though! that is really cute!

Another way to be green is to buy stuff from GoodWill and resale shops - that way you're giving life to something that's already been produced and you're keeping it out of a landfill (plus costs less). I've bought my nieces some jewelry, some cute clothes, stocking stuffers, etc., via GoodWill and resale shops. This year at GoodWill for stocking stuffers I found Xmas socks that still had the tag on, cloth textbook covers that were new, a little mini etch a sketch for traveling, a special container w/a magnifying glass to look at bugs, metallic pens (new-.25), a pink girly notebook-new, stickers - new, high school musical things -new, almost all of it .99 or under.

I've also freecycled throughout the year via www.freecycle.org, to get them stuff I think they'll like. People give away all sorts of stuff that's new or like new on freecycle. Some stuff I've gotten via freecycle includes a teddy bear, a jewelry box, a diary, a Barbie closet with about 50 outfits/accessories, a Barbie tiki hut, preschool backpacks, toy chest, chaulkboard and more...

I've been telling (and buying) everyone the ONE TRIP TOTE by Neeblink Inc. ( www.Onetriptote.com). It's the most unique and useful item I've found this year. It's a large, open carryall that you can use for shopping, instead if all the plastic bags. I love it for loading all my and the kids stuff we need for the say and only having to make one trip to the car and back in again. So many uses...pool, laundry, shopping, sports games, parties. I keep a few in my trunk and one inside. Keeps my trunk organized too!!! Have a Green Chistmas!!

Althought I'm not very 'green' this is a great idea! I love the shopping bag, you can get them for $1 a lot of places and have them screen printed to make them personalized! I have an indoor swap meet that does it cheap! I would enjoy that as a gift!

What a fun and awesome idea. I have been switching my home to being "green" for the last year and love it. I plan on giving some green products for the home - not exactly a thrilling present but something that will be better for the family and the environment.

Here's tons of cute handmade ideas you can make or buy for kid gifts, the reused crayons idea is easy:

I also make jewelry from recycled vintage pieces, if you know anyone who likes that:

The seed, plantable gift cards are great too!

I'm all about handmade gifts as well.

Hi S.,

I would recommend that you check out the Container Store's stocking stuffer catalog (available on their Website -- thecontainerstore.com). They have a bunch of "green" gifts from bamboo puzzles, to reusable sandwich bags, reusable water bottles, etc. For kids, we have a bunch of toys from Green Toys, which is a great company. Also, if you have people on your gift list who are into kitchen stuff, Preserve makes good quality plastic kitchen implements (not too expensive) from recycled plastic (and they're recycled, too) --- www.recycline.com

Best,
R.

If I had the space to be craftier, I think it would be fun to find pretty old mason jars and buy lids for them and use them to give homemade laundry soap (with the recipe on nice paper), especially if you scent it with essential oils.

You can always make a few things like scented trivets with your kids with cloth scraps you might have and filling them with rice and dried lavendar or something.

I think it is neat that you are looking for things with that in mind. You can also always go to a thrift shop and look for something you can use as a starter item, like old picture frames you could paint and decorate and make into a mirror or something. Keep browsing etsy--there is often fun stuff on there! :)
