Ideas for First Lost Tooth!

My oldest daughter lost her first tooth tonight. A very BIG moment for her (& ME)! I really did not expect this for another week or so, but she has been wiggly it nonstop for a week now. Needless-to-say, since I was not prepared, I got her to hold off on putting it under her pillow until tomorrow night. I had to make up a really good story about the tooth fairy in order to delay it for a day. Anyways, I would like some ideas about what "tooth fairies" are leaving for children these days. Also, I have told her that losing her first tooth is always extra special and so the tooth fairy will most likely leave something extra special this first time only. Any creative ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, what do you do with the teeth? I think my mother saved mine for awhile, but I had not given that much thought to what I should do.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I decided writing little notes was a GREAT idea! My daughter always has so many questions and to foster her imagination is fun. She now has a tooth fairy especially assigned to her by the name of Katie. And Katie told her that the best teeth are taken to her tooth garden up in heaven where God then comes and takes them out for the new babies that are about to be born. Basically, the moral of the story was for my daughter to continue to take good care of her teeth so that lots of little babies can receive them. She was also left 2 shiny gold coins and a toothbrush with a sparkly "fairy" ribbon wrapped around it. I went out and bought a chapter book about losing teeth that we are also reading together at night. Thanks for responding Mommies!!!

My mom wrote me little teeny tiny notes when she left me the tooh fairy gift under my pillow.

My tooth fairy's name was Misty and she told me in the note my tooth was so clean and bright, it would look beautiful in her little tooth garden and how proud of me she was for being brave when I lost my tooth and for doing such a great job of keeping my teeth clean. Then she left me a dollar or quarter, and a cute new toothbrush to remind me to keep my teeth shiny and clean. I had a special little silk coin pouch I used to put my tooth in and the tooth fairy would leave the note in there when she took the tooth.

I still have the first tooth my son lost(only the first) and he's 43 now. Every time I see it in the bottom of my jewelry box, I smile. A dollar is the going rate with the grandkids, but the little notes and gifts are so much more meaningful than the money. That's what makes it memorable for the whole family.

I give a $1 for each tooth...even the first. We didn't do anything special. The first tooth turned out to be special b/c he has swallowed all the other ones thus far (only two). Silly boy. I kept the first tooth, planned on keeping all of them...so much for that. Guess I'll just keep the first one!

A friend of mine has a "tooth plant". Therefore kids leave their tooth in the plant and the tooth fairy leaves a note and money and treat in the plant for the morning. This was started b/c her oldest was a light sleeper and she didn't want to get caught.

My daughter gets the gold dollars. She thinks they are very special and saves them! I get them from the bank. One time I gave her a $2 bill. That was a home run too!

Well, when my daughter got her first wiggly tooth, she started telling me that the tooth fairy was going to bring her jewels!! LOL So, I started hunting for "jewels" right away. Sure enough, her grandma found beautiful "jewels" at Hobby Lobby. So, when she finally lost that first tooth, the tooth fairy left her a big pink "jewel" and a clear diamond "jewel". The tooth fairly also left her a special note acknowledging that big milestone. She was SO excited about that. Ever since, the tooth fairy leaves her golden dollars, which she loves.
As for what we do with the teeth, I have one of these and adore it. But, I am a very sentimental person. Most moms seem to think lost teeth are disgusting and toss them in the garbage can. LOL I just can't do it. So, I have one of these for each of my kids...........

When my son leaves a tooth we put it in a small dish on the table next to his bed. That way the tooth won't get lost and it makes sure the tooth fairy finds it (and of course makes it MUCH easier for us!). :-) The 1st tooth is a dollar to make it extra special and all other teeth are 50 cents. I did a brief survey with neighbors and friends after the 1st one fell out and that is the going rate in our area.

We toss the tooth in the trash can immediately. My parents saved all my teeth in a jar and gave it to me when I was a teen. I think they thought I'd like it or something, I dunno... it was gross and I threw it away. I guess if you're a packrat you like to keep stuff like that but we are not, and are trying very hard to encourage our children to not be (both hubby and I have packrat parents).

We did $5 for the first tooth and $1 for each after that. I think the first is a big deal and my dd lost hers at 3 so she was beyond thrilled to find $5. She has friends at school that get much more. A girl in her girl scout troop got $20 for the first and $5 for each after that..a little nuts especially if you have more than one child.
I did keep the teeth for a while I thought it was neat. But every person is different.

Just give her money.. whatever amount you think is good to continue in the future.. We gave quarters.. Our daughter had a collection of piggy banks so she loved quarters.. Since you told her she would get something special, How about a book from the tooth fairy? Have a neighbor sign it so she will not recognize the handwriting..

I saved all of our daughters teeth in a small jar. Once she figured it out, I gave the the jar and she was delighted..We continued to add as she lost more teeth afterwards.. You are going to receive many posts from moms that throw them away and think it is gross to save them.. .
