How to Unsticky This Ball?

we bought my daughter one of those squishy balls with the tentical like spikes on it. She loved the textures but when she started teething she gummed it all up and its all sticky. Washing it just sticks everything together and now it collects hair and dust really bad. Is there anything I can do to get it back to normal or are these just made so they can never get wet?

What can I do next?

What worked for me, is to apply a little bit of baby powder (talc free). This makes it so that it's not sticky anymore, but I'm not sure it would taste too good to your little one. Maybe even just pure cornstarch would work, and that would be safe to put into her mouth.

Hi,
The only thing I can think of trying would be after it is cleaned and throughly dried is try dusting it with cornstarch. Alot of types of rubber don't do well getting wet and alot of them even dry act as a magnet for hair, etc. If you put a powder on it I think it will repel the hair, dust and not stick to it or at least make it easier to clean off and cornstarch won't harm your little one if she ingests it.
Hope this helps some.
K. :)

My grandchildren have a couple of balls that sound like this and they've never gotten sticky. My granddaughter gives everything a bath including the ball and it is still OK. I'm guessing that the difference may be the type of material with which it's made. But the tags are long gone and so I don't know what they're made of. I'll check at the store and see what I can find out about them.

For the ball that has never been wet I think that probably static electricity is attracting the dirt and hair.

I also suspect that once it's gummed up and washing doesn't help it's best to throw it away.
