tucson.craigslist.com I swear, when I post something for sale on craigslist, the next day or the day after it's sold.

I say word of mouth...... It's best if SOMEONE you know, knows the person and can give you a trustworthy reference.

Advertise in the newspaper, using a blind box. In the add request references. Weed out any responses that cause you concern. Meet with prospective renters in a neutral and public location. Only give the general area in which you live. Do not give out your address or your phone number. Communicate thru the blind box.

Before deciding on a renter, check out all references. Talk to personal friends and business associates. Feel comfortable with the person and his references.

Draw up a contract in what is acceptable in your home and what is not. Discuss this contract and your general expectations. Have them sign the contract. Keep the original and give them a copy.

Once they move in continue to be cautious in how much information you give out.

Or.......you can look for renters in your own social group. You can post on a school or college bulletin board. Only give out the general area in which rental is available and only give out your phone number. Again, meet in a public place.

You do not want strangers to know your address or any information that would make you seem vulnerable. If you keep that in mind, always, you are being as safe as is possible in today's world.

Try putting an ad in the U of A student newspaper, The Arizona Daily Wildcat.
It's where I and almost all of my friends looked for housing options when we were at the U.
If you're concerned about partying, etc, you might want to advertise it as a "room in a family home" and mention you are looking for "graduate students/serious students only".
That'll definitely scare off the party set, and there are always tons of respectful, quiet students (especially grad students) looking for a mellow place to live. Good luck!
