I am looking to hear from moms out there what is a good house warming gift to give. I will be visiting a family this weekend and they have built a new home and moved in about 2 months ago. This is their second home. I am looking for something creative but not too spendy.

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas. It was a great visit and the house was very enviting and warm. I ended up bringing carmel rolls, cookies, a windchime and a Home Interiors candle. We also brought a baby gift for their new baby including play doh and an outfit. The kids had alot of fun also. Again thanks for the ideas.

This is something we usually do for weddings, but I think would be a good house warming gift. It is a part out of the movie "It's a Wonderful Life", where they take a family to their new home. You put the movie, a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread(we use french), and a thing of salt with this saying in a basket. (We add other stuff for weddings when we have more to spend...like cloth napkins, wine glasses, gift cards, etc.)

The line from the movie is "Bread-that this house may never know hunger. Salt-that life may always have flavor. Wine-that joy and prosperity may reign forever!"

This has always been a hit with us! Have fun!

A flower pot filled with gardening gloves, tools and seed packets and a big bow tied around the pot always works nice for a new home.

I would like to add that if you get a "decor" type of item, that you include a gift receipt so they can exchange it for another style, color etc. That way you can get something for their home even if you have never seen it and don't know the colors or decorating tastes of that family. Even with something as simple as cloth napkins, you could include a gift receipt.

Another idea is a gift certificate to a home decor store, or to a movie rental place near their new home.

I personally would LOVE to get a homemade fruit basket or any combo of fruit/nut/cheese/chocolate basket.

Fancy tea and/or coffee assortments arranged in a small basket would also make a lovely gift.

HI
When we moved into a Hearthstone Home they gave us a book called The Organized Life. I have found it very usefull. We also recieved a bucket from a friend. It had things that were in a box some where in the Kitchen. Ie. paper plates, a small role of tape, cleaning supplies, plastic forks and spoons and 2 things of toilet paper.

I hope that is helps.

I sell Uppercase Living and have made frames with the last name of the family. I have even put established 1998 or whatever. It looks really cute and is about 20 bucks depending on the name, size etc. Everyone loves it because it is personalized.

Hello,
I make and sell bath and body products along with reed diffusers and linen sprays.
Don't know if that interests you at all or not. The bath and body products include things like goat's milk soaps, solid lotions, body frosting, lip balm, bubble cakes, shaving soap, solid shampoo, bath truffles, body powder, sugar scrub, body spritzers, after shave, sweet mud facials and eye spa pads. All of the items come in lots of different fragrances. They are just feel good items, and all good for your skin.
If you would like, I could send you a flier of prices and fragrance options. They are all reasonably priced.
I would just need your email address.
Thanks, B. O

Hi L.,

I am a Tastefully Simple consultant and if you would like to give them something to cook for them selves in their new kitchen I can help you to put something together. Being a consultant with Tastefully Simple, I usually give my products as gifts and try to put it together in a personal way if I know the people at all.

I love those tubs that you put beverages in for entertaining. Depending on your price limitation, you could get plastic or metal.

Another thought is to get a basket (cheap ones sometimes on sale at Michael's), and fill it with various napkins, plastic/hard cardboard plates, fun cups, for various seasons, etc. It's always fun to get nice disposable wear, and it makes a nice visual. I'm to cheap to buy the "fancy" disposable stuff, but it sure is nice to get a fun variety of it as a gift. Someone did a large basket of cute stuff like this when I got married, and I thought it was great.

Nice spices make a good housewarming gift.

One of my favorite "housewarming" gifts is also a small joke. I take a freezer container and tape/enclose some money with it. Then I wrap it in freezer paper and give it to them with instructions. Most of the time it is something like "Store in the freezer until some night when you are too tired to cook." On that night they open the paper and find $$ and a note telling them to go out and have a nice dinner!

My FAVORITE house warming gift idea is to pick a recipe and put together all the ingredients in a big pot or casserole (whatever the recipe calls for), and then add a big spoon or whatever untensil the recipe needs. Throw it together with a big bow and people LOVE it!! Good luck!!!!
