Homeopathic Remedies for Ear Infections? Milk Connection?

My one year old has had an ear infection for over 40 days. He just can't seem to kick it even with three different antibiotics. I am not a natural person but our Ped is talking about tubes. I went to a store today as a last ditch effort and the lady there told me to try a homeopathic tablet for his left ear, stop the whole milk, and also try primadophilus. She explained most babies get ear infections when they start cow's milk because of some sort of an allergy. It kind of made sense to me because both my boys never had an ear infection until a few days after starting cow's milk. I always thought it was because I stopped nursing and the antibodies were gone. Any thoughts about what to try before we do tubes or antibiotic shots?

What can I do next?

I've read that working with a chiropractor, who specializes in children, can really help with persistent ear infections.

Garlic Mullein oil drops. You can get them at Vitamin Cottage or Wild Oats.

Are you still able to express milk from your breasts? The breastmilk our bodies make have many health benefits and healing ear infections is one of those benefits.

I cannot find the link I found this informatin on a while ago, but the following link should be helpful.

Our son's chronic ear infections went away when he started taking Nasonex. He's been on it and ear infection free since he was 11 months old. I guess it just keeps him from getting too stuffy. He has no allergies according to tests, but it worked like a charm!

Dear A.,
Good For You!! The advice given you was good advice. Definitely stop all milk products until he is cleared up and then consider alternatives. I struggled with three of my boys and finally used natural products and I learned a lot about how to prevent ear infections. I used ear drops with herbs to help with the infection and pain. I also gave my boys echinacea with other herbs in sweet tasting glycerin as a tincture. Echinacea is an herb to help with immunities. That is what started a whole new journey for our family. I learned to be careful of how I bathed the boys and how to keep water out of their ears. There is a massage that can help as well from the base of the ear down the side of the neck. It doesn't feel great, but it helps the Eustachian tubes to clear. As you continue to ask the health food store for help, you will probably be able to circumvent the next round of ear problems.

I consulted with a Naturopath and he taught me another great way to open the Eustachian Tubes, it has been a great relief for my children over the years. I would suggest you look for and consult with a Naturopath before putting in tubes. Tubes may be a last resort, but you can almost assuredly circumvent tubes if you are diligent.

While it is important to use regular medicine (Allopathic) when it is critical, there are many things you can learn to prevent through natural means.
Best Wishes!

Try a Chriopractor.
There is one bone called the "Atlas" around the neck/top of the back that gets displaced very easily. For some reason when the "atlas " is misaligned ear infections occur.
My daughter is 2 and has had her's adjusted twice. Once during an ear infection, which then disappeared immediately then once as preventative measure.

Worth a try after 40 days.
good luck

I couldn't get my daughter in to see a doctor (small town, not a lot of doctors), so I picked up some of the homeopathic meds at a grocery store here when she complained of pain in both ears and was screaming/crying. I got some ear drops and also some tablets that you put under the tongue and they worked great! She was happily running around after a couple of hours. The best part is that she loved to take them. (I guess the herbs are stewed down and then dropped onto sugar pills, so the pills taste good.) I was pretty surprised that it all worked, since I have only used homeopathic medicine once before with no real obvious result, but they were teething tablets, so who knows. I wish I could remember the brand name of the ear meds. Also I was told that sweet or olive oil in the ear works great. Our daughter doesn't drink much cow's milk, because she doesn't really like it, but we still get ear infections so I'm not sold on the cow's milk allergy explanation, but I guess I shouldn't knock it if it works for others. My doctor says that when a cold sticks around for awhile, and the kid is stuffed up, the infection inevitably backs up into the ear. Our infections are always in the inner ear.

use clotial silver (not sure the spelling).... it is a very natural way to help.... drop a few drops in their ear then let it sit in the ear as long as they will let it.... apply a few times a day... they may complain of it being "cold" in the ear..... most health food stores should carry it and would have info on it, i havent had to take my kids in but once in a great while for ear infections, since using this!

also i think it may be more than just cows milk... i think it could be any allergy, my oldest was getting alot of ear infections and i realized she was allergic to cats... i through the cats out and vaccuumed the house, and her infections literally stopped for the rest of the year! anything irritating the ears and sinuses can lead to infections.....

Go to a chiropractor! That is how I have successfully dealt with ear pain by spinal manipulation & draining of the Eustachian tubes by my chiropractor. They can even show you how to drain them at home.

My sons system was stripped by multiple antibiotics used on him as a baby to try to free him from chronic ear infections. And he suffered from the negative affects from the antibiotics for many years. We learned so much later that helped him loads. Cutting cows milk was HUGE and helped so much. We also began to used slightly warmed olive oil with a garlic clove crushed (mixing the garlic juice only in the oil) and used that as drops in the ears. After years of fighting ear infections in all 3 of our boys, I think we only required an antibiotic once after using drops like this. At the first sign of an ear ache we made the drops and they infection never developed to a serious point again. (Use probiotics from health food stores to help build your sons system up from the stripping done by antibiotics. I would open an acidophilus tablet and mix it in with your sons food if your doctor approves. It's what's found in yogurt.)

Definitely stop cow's milk. My best friend had this same problem with her boy (now almost 3). He had numerous ear infections, and their Dr. was also recommending tubes. She took him off of all cow milk products about a year ago, and he hasn't had a single ear infection since.

I do not know about a homeopathic remedy (I am sure there is one out there), but I would definitely consider stopping cow's milk before getting tubes put in. First of all, milk is the second most common food allergen (wheat being the first), and secondly, when I switched my daughter to soy milk at 2 years old, she stopped having asthma attacks. She is now 10 years old and very healthy. When I had my son, we never went to cow's milk, just directly from breast to soy. Some say that soy milk is nutritionally inferior to other alternative milks, such as almond milk. Experiement and see which flavor you kid takes to.
