My baby sister, age 29, is getting married in April. I need to loose weight for the wedding and I'm running out of time. It's come at a time in which I've lost my job so I'm cooking, stressing out, and eating all the time. Instead of losing weight, I'm gaining. I'm especially concerned with the double-chin I am getting. This can't be covered with clothes. I'm busy with my teenage son, so I'm not exercing like I should. I keep hearing about "cleansing". However, I don't know enough about this. I usually prefer a natural approach. However, I'm not closed minded to other suggestions. In addition to this, my face is broken out from stess. This will be great for pictures. Please help.

What can I do next?

My mother went to someone at a health food store to find out about cleansing after she had cancer for the 2nd time. They should be able to tell you some things that will not only help you loose weight but keep you healthy. My mom doesn't exercise but still lost weight from the changes she had to make. I hope this helps and good luck!

sleep longer (8+ hrs), reduce your sugar & salt intake dramatically, drink lots of water, eat more veggies, minimum 1/2 hr walks in the mornings, laugh & be happy & enjoy life as it comes (in different sizes!!). :)
Though you may not reduce your weight by April, but you will reduce your size a bit and have a glow on your face and a re-energized spirit.

It's not really healthy to lose more than about 2 lbs per week. More than that, no matter how you do it, puts a lot of stress on your heart and may actually cause your body to resist weight loss and make it harder to lose weight. You don't mention why you need to lose the weight or how much you need to lose. If it's to look better for pictures, can you try spanx or some other type of slimming undergarment? I've used them for weddings and they really help your clothes hang better.

Some cleansing programs can be really dangerous, so please be very careful with them. They have even been known to cause hallucinations! For your long-term health and happiness, I really recommend the old-fashioned "more exercise and smaller portions of food". It's the only way that's been scientifically proven to work and last. Your stress might improve just by taking the pressure off of yourself to look different so fast. Maybe that would help the acne too! Good luck and blessings for the wedding!!!

Southbeach and Sugarbusters both mean quick early weight loss and are a much healtlier lifestyle than most lead anyway. My hubby lost 11bs the first two weeks and I lost 8. You can get the books at your local bookstore or library.

I say, get a juicer and start juicing vegetable and fruit combinations (a basic recipe is: some sweet, like watermelon or an apple or two; some sour, like a lemon or lime; some leafy, like chard, parsley, collards, spinach, etc.; and whatever else you want, like beets, carrots, cucumber, celery whatever). It's delicious! It also keeps you feeling full and satisfied for hours, it's super, super healthy, and helps to turn your taste preference toward fresh fruits and vegetables.

And on this last note: keep in mind that your tastes change. If you can just stick to a healthy, whole-foods diet for even just a week, you will crave the bad stuff less and less. Actually, with every healthy choice you make, your tastes lean a little more that way. Take a good Fuji apple (say), vs. chocolate. If you start eating your favorite apple or vegetable (cherry tomatoes are great, etc.) instead of your most fattening snack, you will want the fruit/vegetable instead, and want the fattening snack less and less.

The main thing is to not *deprive* yourself. Don't just *not eat*. Eat tasty good foods. Look up some healthy recipes that you might like. It's *great* that you cook. Just cook healthy stuff.

Have fun!
L.

PS it's not only unsafe, but very unhealthy, to lose more than about 2 pounds per week. Do yourself a great favor for life and just eat super healthfully. Most importantly, cut down on your meat intake, of all kinds. Even "lean" meat. Animal protein makes you sluggish. Get it out of your system and you'll see what I mean! All of a sudden you'll feel like getting up off your butt. Also, trade out any soda you're drinking (even diet, because the chemicals are awful for you) for herbal teas sweetened with stevia (0 calories, but natural and even good for you), or watered-down juices.

Don't have any quick solutions for the weight but I've found that tea tree oil works great at drying up acne breakouts.

K., join weight watchers. You can join online for less money but still get all the info and results. Or go to the grocery and get lean cusine, smart ones, healthy choice, lean pockets meals. They are low calorie meals and taste good. Also put up a few salad items and fruit. Take time to walk. This is the best exercise you can do. Take your son and start walking. Stop stessing about losing your job. Start praying that God will guide you in finding a new job.
Good luck. I know you can do it. B.

I agree with the advice about eating lots of fruits and vegs, 1/2 hour walks daily, etc. That is the right lifestyle choice. Having said that, my husband used the cabbage soup diet once and lost about 9 pounds in a week (it's only meant to last a week). Perhaps it could sort of "jump started" the weight loss. I've heard that it is the diet given to people who need surgery, but need to lose weight first, don't know if that is true or not. And, yes, tea tree oil has worked for my teen-aged sons in clearing up their acne.

Hey K.,

I got the Six Week Body Makeover, and it really works! If you like to have your meals planned out for you, and workout from home, then this is a great option. It comes with a "six-day mini makeover", and I lost 10 lbs in the first week. Good luck!

Hey K.,

Time really is short, so here is what works and the only thing I can say is stay realistic about dropping weight. 1-2 lbs a week is usually the most. Other hints for the big day, flattering clothing, sphanx hosiery and a spray on tan applied by a professional... these all help us go the distance.

First... diets are a healthy lifestyle and a forever change. Second... you need to figure out what your maintenance weight is... this is the weight were you stay without gaining or losing and probably the weight you were at 22- 25 years of age. Lastly you need to count calories. Doesn;t matter what you eat, just number of calories... of course you want to be healthy and make good choices.. but if you want some cake.. then fine, just do not exceed you calories for the day. if you started counting calories now, you would see that you are probably consuming way more that you should.

Weight loss is simple but time consuming. You have to decrease the amount of calories you ingest and increase the caloric output by activities. So with that said... how to do this without being miserable. Well first thing is portion control and any meal should be healthy and portion should be fist sized. In the beginning avoid all whites (flour, sugar, potatoes, pasta, salt, bread, etc.) and in general try to avoid anything..including veggies that DO NOT see Sunlight... meaning no carrots, no potatoes, no corn (it is hidden from sunlight when growing)... even those these are vegatables... they should be consumed in moderation and during dieting skipped. You can ad the whites back after you meet your weight goal..though slowly as to see if they will cause return gaining.

Next eat 8-16 small meals over the course of the day .... more intervals with less food will ward off hunger and make dieting easier while allowing you stay within the frame of calories you need to have.

Lastly...you have to exercise... move more than you currently do and weight should start to come off... and then when you plateau... well move more than before... your vbody will adjust to the activity level and weight will quit falling off, which is why you need to up the anti and do more activity.

Another issue you currently have is STRESS and this causes an increase in your bodies natural Cortisol... in a sense the steroid your body is making in response to stress is causing you to gain and keep more weight. You need to find a way to destress that suits you and make sure you get a full 8 hours of sleep each night. It has been shown that weight loss is not possible without good sleep.

Oh and I hope your stressors decrease. Congratulations on wanting to look your best for you sister's big day and may you get to a size that is both healthy and comfortable for you. The journey will not be eay but the rewards wil be amazing.

God Bless,
MB

K.,
You can always lose weight quick but one key thing that is contributing to your weight gain is the stress of your current situation. What I have found out about stress is that it can either contribute to weight gain or weight loss depends on your body reacts to the stress. My advice would be to pray and give God your stress, cares and worries then let Him take control. I haven't known Him to fail me yet. No matter how hard you work to lose the weight if stress is a factor it's going to play a bigger role than the changes you are making which in turn is adding stress to your body. It adds stress because it's use to a certain way and now you are changing that. Drink a lot of water, give God your cares and watch what you eat. I pray this helps you. Be blessed.
