So... its going on a month now that my poor baby (10 months old) has had an ear infection.. He has been running a 102 fever about every few days .... We have been given 3 different medications to try and clear it up.. but the doctor said that it looks like he had never been medicated! He said they were really, really bad.. and my only other option before sending him to an ENT was to give him a shot (actually ended up being 2 cause its such a big one).. and putting him on a Z pack for a week... This was on Friday... needless to say.. It doesnt seem as though he is getting any better.. I DO NOT want to put tubes in his ears..my brother in law said he remembers getting them.. and they were very - very painful! Any have any experience in this.. any suggestions at all!! I dont want to sedate my baby if I dont have to :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

God bless you Laura!! Ok so I have always had mixed feelings about the Chiropractic healing power :) No more.. I am all about it! I went to see Kevin at Trinity Family Chiropractic and my son no longer has an ear infection! If you would have seen his ears before we went to see him you would understand my heartfelt thank you! I had an appt set up with an ENT and felt sooo sad because I did not want my son to get tubes in his ears.. after seing Kevin the ENT said that Grant's ears were amazingly better! NO TUBES! YAY! I highly suggest you come see Kevin if you ever run into the same problem or for any other Chiropractic work :) He is a super nice guy.. and takes his time to explain why everything works the way it does :) THANK YOU!! http://www.trinityfamilychiropractic.com/

Hi Candace,

I would try chiropractic care. Many times ear infections can be resolved by getting adjusted. My two kids have been adjusted since the day they were born and have never have an ear problem. My husband has a chiropractic practice and sees LOTS of kids. Trinity Family Chiropractic, www.trinityfamilychiropractic.com ###-###-####

Both of my children have ear tubes. They had ear infections one after the other that never seemed to go away and antibiotics just didn't help them either. My oldest son is 3, my infant 1 and both have done really well with the tubes. Chronic ear infections can also lead to scaring in the ear and affect their hearing. When my oldest son had his hearing tested prior to ear tubes (he was one at the time) the Doctor told me that my son's ears were so full of fluid that it would be like hearing everything under water. My advice would be to see an ENT to at least find out what your options/their advice.

Take him to a chiropractor (We saw Dr. Ruth Durkee, who is great with kids, she's off 75 Central) and I also suggest taking him off dairy (put on soy, almond or rice milk). It worked for my guy (who had 3 back to back infections).
Good luck!

My dh has had ear infections since she was about 10 months old, finally at age of 5 she got ear tubes. They do not bother her and this winter was much better. My recommendation is that you see a ENT. They know the ears better than a pediatritian. Good luck.

I can't give advice for against ear tubes but I can for the ear infection my son had when he was younger. We tried for about 2 months to get rid of it and it kept coming back. New meds each time. The last time it did not come back was when we actually got enough medicine for 10 days, not 7. It was liquid in a bottle, 2 actually, and by the grace of God, they had extra in them and that worked for him instead of taking it for 7 days like all his prescriptions were and then it coming right back. I hope this will work if he hasn't been on it for longer yet.
good luck

Hi Candace,
I too suggest taking him to a chiro. My ENT suggested some ear tubes and we just didn't feel comfortable with it. I did alot of research on it and found that Antibiotics just don't work! Most of the time they just cause the bacterium strain to get stronger and you then get caught in a vicious cycle! Best thing to do is help his body to push through it and get his immune system strong and see a chiro to help with adjustments. My son is fine now and has no problems since I started treating his allergies with an antihistamine (the real problem that caused his ear problems in the first place).
Wish you well,
C.
