I took Clomid for several months, my OBGYN did tell me though that after 3-4 months on the drug it starts to prevent you from getting pregnant so you have to take breaks and only take it a few months at a time. I was diagnosed with PCOS and after trying Clomid, then clomid with Progesterine, then progestrine with a blood sugar medicine (cannot remember the name) for over a year. We decided to take a break and about 1-2 months after stopping the medication we got pregnant. So everyone is different, just pay attention to your body and hang in there.

I took this drug for 6 months, increasing it by 50 mg every month, along with a laparscopy...I conceived my little one and she will be turning one tomorrow!! Some people claim that it causes them to feel crazy and have severe pms like symptoms. I felt no different then any other day....After 3 years of ttc...We finally have our little girl! My max dose was 200 mg, which some docs will not go past 150 mg. We also had other testing before we started clomid...HSG, Sperm count, ovulation tests, basal temp..etc, etc....it wasn't until my lap and super dose of clomid that I conceived.

Dear Friend: Well, By now I am sure that you know that clomiphene citrate is a fertility drug also used to regulate female problems.

I took it about 20 years ago for fertility treatment. But, unfortunately it was unsuccessful. After having a hysterectomy a couple of years later they found out I would never have had children to begin with. But, we were blessed with a son that was available for adoption.

My sister-in-law took it for fertility and it was successful for her she had 2 children already.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I took clomid for almost a year. Everyone's situation is different. I was under the care of my OBGYN. I was on a high dosage and experienced the typical side effects, weight gain, mood swings, cyst on my ovaries. When we moved on with a fertility specialist he felt like i was on too high of a dose and for too long. He said they typically know if the drug will work for you between 2-4 rounds. After being on it ofr that extended period of time I developed poylps in my uterus which had to bee surgically removed. My advice is to listen to your gut and not stay on it too long. If you are responding on clomid great! If not seek the advice of a fertility specialist. We used the ART group at Brookwood for three pregnancies and had a great experience.

Good luck, I know it is stressful and emotional!

We had trouble TTC, so after a year of trying, my OBGYN put me on clomid. (doc has PCOS on my chart, HSG test looked fine and spermies checked out OK). I didn't have any side effects that I could tell, but I was on clomid 6 mos, and didn't get pregnant. A year after that, I did get pregnant without any medical help. Go figure. Best of luck to you!

Hi A.,

I actually did 6 rounds of Clomid. I got up to a 150 mg dosage. It really is a great drug for inducing ovuluation. Just watch out for the mood swings and hot flashes! I was never able to actually get pregnant using Clomid but I do believe it helped regulate my cycles and I was able to get pregnant on my own. Best of luck to you!

I was on Clomid for a year and a half. My husband and I have been trying for 2 years now. I have recently gone to a specialist and he told me that if a woman is going to conceive on Clomid it is usually in the first 4 months. I was on a 200mg dosage, and I had a few side effects (hot flashes and headaches).
Also, sometimes it takes a few months for the doctor to get the dosage right..they may up you a few times to get you to where you need to be!

First off...I assume you are trying to get pregnant again? Or you would not be on drug to help you be fertile...right? As with any drug I would just pay attention to your body and your doctor...cramping, bleeding, change of eating habits...just be careful. Good luck to you.

I took it two different times in my life. Have two beautiful children as a result. Only got one at a time. Multiple births are a possibility. It's great.
