My daughter just turned 2 and with the heat she keeps getting terrible heat rashes. She is itching really bad to the point where her skin is breaking. Is there anything I can put on it to help with the itching?

What can I do next?

I understand exactly what she is going through. I go through the same problem with myself and my 3 kids. The best thing that I have done and it has worked for me is to put corn starch (NOT THE BABY POWDER WITH CORN STARCH) Use the one that you buy from the supermarket, the one that you cook with. But the best thing to do is to keep the area dry and cool. If it's in the diaper area before applying the corn starch apply a very light coat of A&D ointment and then dust the corn starch on the affected area. The worst thing to do is wash the area with soap and water. If at all possible try not to use soap to wash the area. Use a cool wash cloth. After that you should be seeing a slight improvelent. I hope this helps.

In the past I've used Aquaphor ointment. (it can be used on broken skin) And still use it for Michael's eczema. He's been getting it pretty bad with the heat. It's a little greasy so I use it in the evening only. I also like Aveeno's dry skin lotion for babies. It says right on it it helps with eczema. Also a new thing i discovered that i use on my own sensitive heat rashes is California Baby's Calendula cream. That's also a natural antiseptic and can be used on broken skin It helped me better than anything I've ever used and it's supposed to be for babies. And it smells kinda nice too.

But if she has a lot of broken skin maybe you want to just put neosporin or A&D ointment on the broken areas.

I hope that helped.
Heat rash is the worst.

Let me know if anything helped.

Take care!

Hi sweetie, I too am a single Mom with a 2 year old. Please bring your baby to your local pharmacy and have them look at it. It could be anything but the skin should not be breaking. Most times the pharmacists are better than the pediatricians. Good Luck.

Try corn starch. Not Johnson & Johnson's. Try the kind you buy at the supermarket, that usually works.

Calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream (like Cortaid) will help control the itch from heat rash. That's really all you need.

Preventing it is more a matter of keeping her skin cool. If she's breaking out from the heat, let her run around in her diaper. It's usually areas under clothes that get heat rash. Also, if her hair is long, pull it up off of her neck. That's a common spot for heat rash because the hair traps heat and sweat next to the skin. A splash in a cool (not cold) tub after outside play time will help cool her down quickly, and help to prevent the rash from forming. And she'll have fun, too.

You can try cornstarch. But the best thing is wash off the sweat cause it contains salt that irritates your child's skin. When she plays and gets sweaty, give her a sponge bath of just plain water. Keep up on it and using cornstarch and hopefully that will do the trick. If not, you should probably consult her doctor for it for a cream to put on it until it dries up. Use cotton clothes too. Sometimes like a diaper rash it can be yeast infection kind of rash and would need a special cream for it.

I have had similar heat rashes all my life, I went to the dermatologist and they gave me a prescription body wash but they also said that the main ingredient in "head n shoulders shampoo" would also work. You should take her to see a dermatologist but in the meantime you could try the shampoo, just wash the infected area with it and rinse clean. I use it everyday but you could try it every couple days to see if it helps. Also try applying powder/cornstarch to the area before she goes outside. Hope this Helps!!
