T., stress can make you have a lose of hair. But also some meds. do. Like one of the side effects for Prilosec AC, is hair lose. I know this first hand because my daughter was taking it and was having large amount of hair lose. B Complex /C vitamins is great for stress. Research any medicines you may be taking.
A wonderful web site for remedies in cooking is christinacooks.com. May give you healthier idea's.

Good Luck,
D.

Hi T.,
The first thing that comes to mind is Thyroid. Stress can cause so many different chain reactions in our bodies, and your thyroid could certainly be out of whack. Do you also have brittle nails and dry skin? Just a thought. If you think you might have a thyroid problem I would suggest getting to your doctor -- But thyroid problems are so often undiagnosed by blood tests (unless the problem has become very serious). I wanted to also pass along this website - I hope it's helpful!

Hi T.: So sorry you are going through such a hard time right now. As everyone said, try your best to take care of you. I highly recommend seeing a therapist to help you de-stress and to support you. Also, eat more protein. Lack of protein is one of the main contributors of hair loss so try to up your protein in the diet - meats, fish, chicken, cheese, and you can also add protein shakes into your diet if you dont like to eat animal products. I dont recommend soy based though, try for one that is whey, egg, or rice based. They are better for your body and more easily absorbed. All the best to you, and you will get through this.

Pure Camu is excellent for hair, fingernails and skin. It is highly bio-available vitamin C, B vitamins and amino acids - and can now be found in micro amounts in many new health products. But it is only available as the pure dried fruit through the Amazon Herb Company. You can get it in the pure fruit form at 1000 mg. per serving, or the same amount per 2 ounce serving of their new 100% certified organic, all rainforest product - Zamu - which combines the camu camu with acai berry, cacao, cinnamon, mango, pineapple and sangre de drago. I drink it often and my hair doesn't break anymore, it's thicker and more lustrous. Bio-available nutrition is important because your body can actually use it rather than just flush it through your system. If you want to check it out look at my website: www.shootingstarherbs.amazonherb.net and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Hi T.,

I am an Aesthetician, and I see many women with hair loss during a time of stress. First of all scientifically, it comes from the oxygen not getting to the blood, and the hair breaks off immeditely at the scalp. Please start to massage your scalp day and evening, also, deep breathing exercises, get to the gym or yoga,or just set much time aside (driving in the car) to be aware of your breathing (many times when we are going through stress we shallow breathe), initially may feel light headed but DONT STOP BREATHING. Your hair will come back, in the mean time please use an affirmation "I Love and Approve of MYself", as many times in the day as you like. Trust me, your hair will come back "stronger and healthier".

Sincerely,
J.

Hair loss is definately a sign of thyroid issues which can be caused by stress- have your thyroid checked out- if I remember correctly it is a sign of hypothyroidism but I could be wrong... Good luck!

Stress (as I'm sure you know) can cause a lot. Your adrenal system is probably being put to the test with the anxiety of divorce. The adrenals I believe are a part of the endocrin system and if your thyroid gets thrown off a bit, you can lose hair. Don't panic about it, though. You probably don't need thyroid meds just yet. You need a massage!! Take some deep breaths and try to meditate. You will get through all of this and be better for it. Picture yourself with gorgeous hair!!

Also, try buying shampoos with out sodium/lauryl or sodium/lauryth sulfates (not spelled quite right I'm sure).

Hi T.,

Stress, especially from Divorce (been there), is a huge factor in losing a lot of hair than normal. Normal loss is about 50-100 hairs a day. More than that, it's caused by stress, anxiety, lack of nutrition etc.

Get some Biotin Super Potentcy. They have 1mg (1000 mcg), or 5mg (5000 mcg). I take the 5mg one. It's the super potentcy and it's helped me a great deal. It takes a while, but you have to be diligent in taking it every single day along with a multi vitamin. I recommend Women's One A Day Multi vitamin. Takec some Vitamin B Complex as well, as we lose a lot of that during a very stressful time such as divorce.

Bless your heart. Things do get better I promise. Going thru a divorce is nasty and it takes a huge toll out of you, but it does get better. And if it helps, try to be friends with your soon to be ex for the sake of your kids, and your own health as well. Things will go much smoother if you can work that part out (ie: stress). Hopefully he's not a butt.

Many blessings to you and your family.

You may want to see a dermatologist. I started losing my hair and after seeing the dermatologist I found that I had a mild case of dandruff. After a switch to some medicated shampoo that I rotate with regular shampoo my hair is in a much better state.

It might be stress but it might be hormonal.
I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome which is caused by an over abundance of androgen (male hormone) while this is great for my sex drive, it has a few side effects...one is hair loss.
Luckily I have an abundance of hair (so it is not noticable) and I wear it fairly long (past my shoulders)but I loose a TON in the shower. My doctor said it will clear up when I get my estrogen levels back up to where they should be.
You might just want to go in and have a full health work up done. If you are facing so much stress in your life it would help to know where you stand with your health in preperation for that stress.
Good luck honey. This can't be easy.

It might be advisable to have your thyroid levels checked. Being overly stressed can blow out your adrenal and hormonal system, and hair loss can be one of the symptoms.
