Gum on Vehicle Seat

How do you get gum out of a vehicle seat? We went to the movie theatre and sat on some gum. We didn't know we had gum on our pants until we got home and saw the seat.

What can I do next?

Hi,
Although timely ice has worked for me as it hardens the spot so you can pick it off.
Good Luck!

ice or wd-40. If the wd-40 leaves a residue, use some powder absorbent like baking soda and then vac it off.

Try canned air (like they sell to dust computer keyboards) and spray very close to the gum. I've heard the propellant will freeze the gum and you can chip it off.

Try using ice (in a plastic bag to keep the gum/seat dry) to freeze the gum. Once frozen, gum is usually much easier to remove from just about anything.

Ice should do the trick. Just put ice on the area and get the gum frozen and it should break off.

Hi L.,

I am not sure if it will work but I would try putting an ice pack on the gum, see if you can freeze it without getting it wet. If it works you should be able to pick off hardened gum. Good luck.

Hi L.,

Go to the Dollar Tree or $.99 Store and buy a bottle of Awesome (the original formula). Spray a little on the gum and use the tip of the nozzle to rub in the product, the gum will ball up and come right out of your fabric or right off of your leather. Do not dilute it as the package says just use it as is.

This stuff is gold! $1 a bottle and it works on everything! I use it to get stains off of clothes, clean the leather seats in my car, clean our boat, you name it it works on it. Even dried in blood on clothes, it just melts it away. Tough stains sometimes need to sit and reapply but I haven't found a stain it hasn't worked on yet.

Good luck!

Put ice in a baggie and get the gum as frozen as possible, than scrape with an appropriate knife. Peanut oil / peanut butter also work but then you'd have peanut butter stains to clean up so not sure about that! Good luck!

Hi L.,
Shaklee has a bio-degradable product called Basic H. It is so mild they say you can brush your teeth with it, although I've never actually tried it.;) Anyway, it works great getting gum off fabric and even hair. (Don't ask) It is sold by distributors in a multi-level marketing company, but a very reliable one that has been around probably 40 years at least. You can find a distributor online/google, or probably in your local phonebook as well. The good thing about Basic H is that it is so mild it won't leave any other stains on your fabric.
Have a blessed day!

My son sat in gum and I had to get it out of his clothes! I used Goof Off. I squirted it on and scrubbed (gently) with a toothbrush. It all came out, with minimul work and it didn't affect the clothes. I am not sure about car fabric, but it didn't ruin his clothes! Good luck!

Hopefully you haven't scraped at it yet. Try putting ice in a bag and leaving it on until the gum is hard then break it away. Otherwise you may have to use Goo Gone but test it first as it may damage the fabric.

Use ice cubes. Freeze the gum, then use a screwdriver to pry up the frozen mass. OR try Peanut butter OR Goo-Gone (if these leave an oily mark: use your favorite laundry spot remover <Spray and Wash/Shout, whatever> then rub the area with a dry-to-slightly-wet bar of soap. Let that sit a few minutes then remove stain with warm, wet wash cloth. Good luck!

Peanut butter will dissolve gum when rubbed into it. Then you just have to wash out the peanut butter with detergent. But first I would try iceing it, that is, put ice on it to freeze the gum, and see if it will chip out or crack off when frozen. If that will work, it's less messy for sure!
