My daughter is 7 months old and we are about to start the weaning process. She's on solid foods and the other day I had gotten my period since before I was pregnant. What will it do to my milk supply and should I even be worried because I am going to start to wean? By the way, in the begining of my cycle I always bled heavily. now, I am bleeding very heavily for the last 3 days or so, is this normal to have after not having a period for so long?

What can I do next?

I started my period when my son was 3 months and my milk supply was fine. My periods were heavy before I was pregnant, but my first few after the baby were even heavier. So I would say not to worry.

I breastfed my daughter only until she was 13 1/2 months old and I got my first period when she was 9 months old and it was heavy the first few months. It will take a few to get "normal" again. You will make the same amount of milk that your baby needs, but since your weaning your milk supply will become less and less the less you use/need. Good Luck weaning is tough!

N. - I got mine back a month after having my daughter and I was pumping exclusively at the time. My first one was also a bit heavier than normal.

Hi
I had a similar experience...got my period around 7 months after my son was born and it was a whopper! It was longer than usual and heavier than usual. Eventually it will normalize. It shouldn't affect your milk supply at all. Good luck!

The first Post Partum Period is a whopper :-) You have several months of uterine lining to shed so it's going to be pretty heavy.

Hi N.,

I don't know a woman out there who's period is the same before pregnancy as after... it'll take several months to get "normal" again. Also it's normal for your milk to slightly decrease when your on your period, but will regulate usually before your back off. It shouldn't be enought to change your supply too much. The baby will still have plenty even if you wern't weaning.

Hi N.,

I got my first period after only 3 months with both of my children. It did nothing to my milk supply. I had very heavy periods that seemed to last longer than ever before. Everyone that I talked to said it was very normal and that is what usually happens. Sounds like you are doing everything right, no need to worry! Just be careful, I got pregnant the second time when my oldest was only 5 months old! You tend to become very fertile after you have a baby!!

completely normal. My first period after giving birth was horrible. It won't do anything to your milk supply. Isn't it nice to have it back???? NOT! lol

your period will change after having a babyy- and they will be different while you are nursing.--whatever the change it is normal.

I got my first post baby period at 7 weeks after the baby was born.. which is also normal. It did not change my milk supply at all.

Most women do not have period while they are nursing - but some do0- it is normal.

Yep, it is completely normal! It won't do a thing to your milk supply, however it is time to be really careful during sex. Once you get your period back your chances of getting preggo again is very high.

GOOD FOR YOU FOR BREASTFEEDING!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day.~ Marci
