Hi, my toddler just started eating pizza, i get him a fresh slice whenever he has the craving but was wondering what brand you recommend as far as frozen pizza goes, just in case he craves it when we're at home. Thanks for your recommendation.

What can I do next?

If you're concern is how healthy the pizza is and the quality of the ingredients that are used to make it, I would recommend buying the Amy's Organic brand pizzas. If you just want something tasty, pretty healthy and kid-friendly, I've always been a big fan of the mini frozen pizzas that you can buy at Trader Joe's.

You could also just buy pizza or bread dough, and just whip together a few pizzas, freeze them, and "Voila" mini frozen pizzas! Bake @ 400 for 10 minutes or so and you're go to go!

I would make him homemade little pizzas, as suggested below! Too much crappola in the frozen pizzas!

Please do not buy the Lunchable Pizzas for a toddler (or any kid!). They are O. of the most unhealthy things on the market for kids!

Pretty much all frozen pizzas are going to be bad for your child - sorry. Most of them have added sodium, fat and carbs that make them taste better, but in the end, they're really just not healthy.

I started my message before reading Dori W's, but I agree about pitas.
We started buying pita bread from a local Mediterranean restaurant, and we use it to make our own pizzas. because they're small, you can customize them for everyone. I like veggies, my kids (ages 2 and 4) like green peppers, mushrooms, broccoli and sausage, my husband is a meat guy.

A bad of 12 pitas costs us $2.50, we can keep them for a few weeks in the fridge. Contadina makes a squeezable pizza sauce that's good. Some shredded cheese and toppings in the oven for 8 minutes, and it's quicker than frozen.

I'm a working mom, so time is a huge consideration. And, having heart disease/diabetes on both sides of the family (plus being a cancer survivor myself), being healthy is huge for me as well.

Good luck.

Hi P.Z.,

You could get some English muffins, pizza sauce and some mozzarella and make child size fresh ones when your little one wants a pizza.

Blessings....

A.'s Organic! They are expensive and small, but if you make some sweet potato fries or something to stretch them, they are DELICIOUS without all the bad flour and preservatives in most of the other brands. Kids eat LOTS of pizza, make it good! We've actually cut our budget in other places to allow for the A.'s pizza's and organic food we buy now.

We make pita pizzas when the kids want a quick pizza snack. You will fare better nutrition wise if you are controlling the ingredients. Use whole wheat pitas, brush the edges with just a bit of olive oil, put on a bit of sauce then add your fav veggies and some low-sodium cheese. My kids like mushrooms, broccoli, sun dried tomatoes, a bit of ricotta if we have it. You can really put anything on it-carrots (you'll have to par cook them), cauliflower, etc. Just use your imagination. I think I bake around 400 degrees.

We love the freschetta ones with the self rising crust. They cook quickly, have a great crust, and there really isn't too much grease on them when they are ready.

You can use a tortilla, some spaghetti sauce and cheese to make little pizza's. It's actually faster to do that than make frozen.

BJ's has an organic line called Earth's Best and they make a really really good frozen pizza. As a bonus, they're not to expensive, which I often find frozen pizza to be.

If your looking for a quick frozen pizza you could try bagel bites. My son really likes those cause their small and hand size for him. I try to bake them just unitl everything is warm and the bagle is not to crispy. He also really like Tostinos. Their cheap and pretty good too.

You could also keep a couple of the new lunchable pizza kits in your fridge... then he can put his own little pizzas together, and they aren't greasy like cooked pizza. My daughter loves them.. (I can't get over the uncooked thing, but kids don't seem to mind at all)

I like the fresh, homemade idea best. Frozen pizzas tend to have a lot of additives in them. We frequently use pita bread for individual pizzas. I even use tomatoe puree and mix in garlic, italian seasoning and pepper flakes for my own sauce. Be sure to buy nitrate free meats, if you must have them, to put on your pizza. They are available at TJ's and WF as well.

With frozen, we do buy the Amy's, trader joes and Whole Foods 365 pizzas when they are on sale, sort of like an emergency stash when we really don't want to cook. We always start with the salad and veggies while the pizza cooks.

Enjoy. D.

It's not a frozen pizza, but if you keep some fresh ingredients on hand - flatbread, tomato sauce, turkey pepperoni, mushrooms, whatever toppings he likes, you can make a 'fresh' pizza in less time (about 10-15 minutes on the oven) it would take to cook a frozen one!
Tombstone and California Pizza Kitchen are good frozen brands, too.
