So What Happened?

Thanks ladies.....
First off.... My 2yr old (back when he was 1.5) snapped a few keys off my laptop... Therefor i get a lot of spelling errors ... Although spelling is one of my weakness...... :)
I'm currently a dental assistant and the pay n flexible hrs are great but they could be so much better if I were a dental hygienist. So that is what I am going for.... But w/o any college courses I feel like I'm crawling out of a hole ..... I know it will be difficult but I want to have a better job to fall back on once the kids are all in school full time.
But you ladies have given me more hope and determination ..... And for that I thank you

Don't beat yourself up so much!!!

Even if you had taken the general ed classes back then you'd have to take some of them again. They redo the gen. ed. requirements every few years and sometimes the class number changes, such as Intro to Psych might be 001 for 10 years and listed on the gen ed requirement page then they update the classes and it's 101 now. The old gen ed class doesn't fill the requirement now because the class is 101 instead so even if it is the same exact class you'd still have to take the class that the number matched. Plus they are always changing the requirements around.

You will do fine, just take it slow, take some easy A classes the first semester like tennis, aerobics, cooking, choir, weight training, photography, etc...they are basically classes that if you show up and participate in you get an A. These will fill in between the classes that require homework and lots of studying.

After your first semester or two you can do more core classes if you are up to the challenge. I made nearly straight A's at Jr. College and got offered full scholarships to full Universities due to my doing all my semesters like this.

This really isn't my story, it's my mothers. My Mom graduated high school in 1978, married in 1979 and by 1983 she had 3 kids. At the age of 48 she went back to school to get her nursing degree and graduated a few years ago. So in her words "It's never too late, you just have to do it!"

Maybe learn to spell first - LOL! jk ;)
I am going back to school, after being out for 15 years, the placement tests are a good thing, because it shows you where you weaknesses will be, if you're anything like me, your weakness will be math - which means you will probably have to do some basic math courses to get you up to college level.
Depending on what degree you want to do, it will likely take you 2 years to get the pre reqs (maths and basic English) courses done, then 2 years extra for an associates. Things take much longer than you remember when you have kids, I have been doing 2 courses a semester - I started with intro to algebra and English composition, then I did basic algebra and biology, then I did anatomy and physiology and sociology, and this semester I am taking anatomy and physiology 2 and chemistry. for me, 2 courses is well enough, but it takes a while!
I will be applying for my associates degree in January - and it will have taken me almost 2 years to get to that point.

Doing it now too...with 4 kids...and knowing what I know now...I wish I did more when I only had 2 or 3 kids! I have 18 credits left...hoping to graduate next August. It is hard...no getting around that (as far as I know!) But it has already been very rewarding. I am so excited to graduate! I do a lot online. This works for some people...but not for others. My brother does better taking classes on campus...he just has a harder time disciplining himself to make a keep a schedule when there's no professor setting dates. It's easier for me to do online because I can do them early in the morning...late at night...during nap time...etc. What are you hoping to go into?

I have 2 years left, so annoying since it will probably take me 4 or more!

You can take some refresher courses online for free, just look around

I am doing it and currently have 4 kids age 4 and under. If you want to make it happen you will. I am taking at least 12 credits per quarter and I work those classes around my husband's work schedule so we don't have to worry about daycare. I also take online classes and do those after my kids are in bed. It isn't easy, you have to stick to a schedule and make yourself study and do the assignments which isn't always easy but if you keep a 'can do' attitude, you will succeed.

I have 3 boys and a stepson and I just submitted my application last weekend. If all goes as planned, I will start back spring semester. I am soo excited to be going back (all online). If I would have had half the enthusiasm then that I do now, well, I would have already graduated :) I should have about 2.5 years.
