Dear moms
Shortly after finding out that I was pregnant, I started to spot and have menstrual-like-pains. I was terrified as I didn't experience anything like this with my first pregnancy. Called my doctor, went in for a vaginal ultrasound and found out that while they couldn't see the fetus (yet too small)they didn't see anything odd. It was probably implantation spotting - nothing unusual was my doc's answer. I was 5 weeks pregnant. Days, passed by and I kept spotting and cramping. After a week and a half, I called once again as I was still spotting/cramping(!). The doctor decided to see me again as it was a bit odd that I was still spotting/cramping - the question at that point was: was I about to have a misscarriage? Well, once again they found nothing at all and I even got to see the little heartbeat!I was almost 7 weeks. Ever since then I still spot here and there and instead of cramps, I have odd pains on the side where the baby implanted himself. The pain now is a funny one that hurts if I have to cough or if I have to sit down (I guess that the hunching-over motion is what bothers my tummy?) I worry that something is not right but it not being looked at! Everything is soo darn different from my first time around that I am totally going nuts! Please, please if you have anything to add to this, I welcome your email! Has anyone had any of these problems during their pregnancy??

Worried!

Every pregnancy is different. Tell your doc that you NEED him/her to completely convince you that what you are feeling this time around is perfectly normal, nothing wrong with throwing it into his/her court.
Don't stress, just journal the pain for awhile and see if there is a pattern. That will be helpful for your doc. You didnt have a 3 yr old to take care of the first time you were pregnant, keep that in mind ;)

I have two children and I am pregnant with my 3rd (10 weeks)...I too have had spotting the whole time with some cramping. Never had this with my first two and it has been all consuming- feel like I live week by week (when the Doctors agree to do another ultrasound), but all is good so far. I am keeping my fingers crossed for both of us! They say it is common, but not normal. Just take it easy- my husband (not Doctor) put me on bedrest for four days and my spotting pretty much stopped!

Good Luck!

Ok I had a bit of bleeding and pain at 8 weeks. I was overdoing it at work and stressed and some serious rest helped a lot. Also my doctor did the rh negative shot ( because I am rh negative) so ask your doctor if that is something you need. Try not to stress and try to rest as much as you can off your feet. Hang in there

I had a similar situation with my 2nd child. I hope your doctor told you to stay off your feet, elevate them, do not carry anything, I know it's hard but do not lift anything, even cleaning the house. Until the bleeding stops. I think by the 4th month I was safe and could start to do things again.

Just be careful

Stay away from anything that increases estrogen. Estrogen dominance causes miscarriage problems, infertility and more.

These things all mimic estrogen:

Any lotion/shampoos/soaps with parabens or benzophenones. Coconut oil can be used on skin for lotion.

Floride and Chlorine in pools and tap water. If you get a tap filter like a reverse osmosis, it will also remove minerals, so you will need to get mineral supplementation. For example, certain filters will remove magnesium, but a shortage of magnesium causes preeclampsia, so that wouldnt be good either. Another way to remove chlorine from tap is to fill a pitcher with water and let it sit out for 24 hours. The chlorine will dissipate. I've also read that adding vit c powder to it will get rid of chlorine.

Flax seed and flax oil. Red Clover.Alfalfa, beer, coffee, sunflower seed, pomegranite, licorice, chamomile.

SOY in ALL forms. any word with soy in it, in the ingredient list. Soy is heavy in processed, created foods. I beleive teqtured vegetable protien is soy as well.

BHA and BHT preservatives in cereal boxes and other processed foods.

Plastics. Try to drink out of glass and use glass containers. Do not reheat in micro on plastic.

Buy organic vegs and fruits. Our main fertilizer used in the USA is estrogenic.

Some fertility docs use progesterone cream (wild yams) to stop miscarriage (because progesterone balances out estrogen dominance,) while having the patient stop using all the products that mimic estrogen. Eating raw nuts, seeds and olives support progesterone. Never use progesterone cream without a doctor's orders. Taking progesterone and still eating and being exposed to all the estrogen mimicers can make you feel sick and make symptoms worse.

Hi M., I feel for you, I know this is scary! I am 32 weeks into my third pregnancy, and experienced the same thing you are going through now during the first trimester of this pregnancy. I had the spotting, aches and pains, ultrasounds, etc., and everything turned out to be okay.
While I was having the "problem", my doctor advised me to "take it easy", take vitamin E, and drink red raspberry leaf tea or pregnancy tea, (which provides uterine support). It was explained to me that sometimes the baby doesn't "fully attach" right away, which can cause a little hematoma where the implantation is occurring that will leak (hence the bleeding) until implantation is complete. I was also told that this is common during the first trimester (I replied of course with a "NOT FOR MEEEE!). There isn't any risk to the baby not getting enough nourishment or anything like that because the fetus is so small at this point. The baby should attach itself fully before the 2nd trimester; if this were a problem occurring 2nd trimester, there would be more concern. It sounds like you are getting all the appropriate care, hang in there and ask your doctor lots of questions to ease your anxiety, see if there is anything special he/she suggests to support your pregnancy until this passes. Hope this information helps. God bless you. J.

Hi,

I had what is called a "threatened miscarriage" in my first trimester. I was 5 weeks 1 day when I found out I was pregnant and had to go the hospital the same day due to bleeding and cramping. Afterward, I went to the Dr every week to make sure the baby was ok. Everything turned out fine, but it was very hard emotionally to go to the Dr every week to look for the heart beat. Also, it is normal in the beginning to have some cramping as if you would be getting your period, since your uterus is stretching. My Dr told me that as long as it is not bright red blood along with severe pain, then it is ok. My spotting was (sorry TMI) brownish.
Good luck with your pregnancy and try not to worry too much, stress and babies don't mix :)

I had the same thing. I bled off and on for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy. My doctor also called it a threatened miscarriage. I had ultrasounds every week and every thing was fine. He also put me on bedrest. My son is almost two now so it was all fine.
Stay off your feet as much as you can and try to relax. I KNOW it is so scary. Hang in there and think positive thoughts. Wishing you the best of luck!
