Hi all, My son's pediatrician's office has been out of flu shots over the last two weeks...they are now advising to call back mid to late october - and this is loyola of all places - anyways, my son is only 2 1/2 so Walgreens, CVS, etc will not give the shot. I know DuPage Medical Group is offering shots to non patients however it is not mercury free...I'd prefer to do the flu mist for him but I just don't know where to go...any ideas?? Thank you!

What can I do next?

walgreen's minute clinics give the shot to anyone over 2. that is where i take my kids...cheaper 24.99 than my insurance co-pay. we have never had any problems. I have an almost 3 year old as well.

I have heard that Walgreens won;t give the flu vaccine to kids but I got a flier in the mail that said those Walgreens with the clinic have the vaccine for 2+. Maybe try those. Sorry, I don;t have it available to look at. you could also try your health department. I know ours is providing for children and the elderly at a low cost.

Our pediatrician's office with DuPage Medical Group at the Rollingride and 95th St in Naperville hasn't gotten their shipment in either. They have told me the past two weeks to keep checking back. They won't take appts. until they have the shipment in.

The Take Care clinics in Walgreens (not sure that all Walgreens have them) give the flu shots for anyone age 6 months and up and give the flu mist for anyone age 2-49 years old. I was just there last weekend with my daughter and still have the handouts they gave me. The shot was $24.99; they will bill your insurance first. The mist is a little more expensive. I think it may have been $29.99 but I can't remember because my daughter wasn't able to get it as she had a temp of 99.1. They will take your son's temp before giving either the shot or mist. In looking at the information from them, I don't see anything about mercury but it does say there is a separate vaccine information statement so I'm sure they would either have that for you to read or you could just call and ask them. I know the Take Care clinics have a different phone number than Walgreens as they just rent the space within Walgreens. I'm sure there is a Take Care website or your local Walgreens could probably give you the number of the clinic in their store. I do know that they cannot transfer you to the clinic when you call though. Good Luck!

I just saw the other responses and there was an error in one of them. Both the Take Care clinics and the pharmacists who are able to give vaccinations are able to give the flu shots to children under 14 at Walgreens (at least that's what I was told last weekend). The pharmacy does not do the flu mist though for anyone, adults or children. Also the shots at the clinics are given in a private room but the shots at the pharmacy are given in the pharmacy waiting area so if having an audience could be an issue for your son, the clinic may work better. The shots at the pharmacy are also $24.99.

Hi L.,
My pediatrician`s office is out of flu shot too..
I took my 4 years old to Walgreen`s take care clinic.. They have both flu mist & shot.. They would give to 2+ kids & also they take most insurances..

I was unable to get the flumist for my youngest until he was older, like 4. Maybe it's changed.

You could try googling flumist and maybe they have a finder on it.

Just curious, how do you know the shot has mercury? It was my understanding that thimerasol is not used in any shots anymore.

Walgreens will not give to kids under 14, but their Take Care Clinics will. My 3 YO got one there already. It varies by location, but last week they had both T-Free and the mist.

Good Luck!
