Finding Someone to Sell My Collectables

I'm in a "get rid of it mode" and was wondering if there are people/businesses that will sell your items for you. I'm thinking of ebay or craigslist but not sure if I'd get enough out of it to even bother. Items include, hummels, Christmas villages etc. I've tried to do the research to see if it's worth it but honestly don't know if it's worth the time. If not, would there be a charitable organization that could sell them and they could keep the profit?? Thanks for any help....

What can I do next?

There are people that will sell it on ebay for you, but I have heard that they take a considerable chunk of the money. Craigslist is pretty easy, but items like that may take a while to sell. If you just want to get rid of them, most charitable organizations with resale shops would be happy to have them. Goodwill, the ARC of Texas and a local charity that helps students are our favorite places to give donations of items. You can also write it off on your taxes.

The Goodwill stores in my area have a special thing they do for the items that they feel are above the typical standard....

They set up a special display, with locked cases, usually, and have a bidding book...... they take bids for a specified number of days, and the high bidder gets to buy the item.

I've seen a lot of stuff in there... antiques, collectibles, musical instruments, better electronics, anything they feel is above the rest.

We also have a local organization called "The Caring Place" that is similar, in that they have a thrift shop/resale store with a couple of specialized areas. The nicer items go in those special shops... they also put things on Ebay and get better prices that way, also. All of the money goes to support their programs, which includes a food pantry, social workers to assist clients with different things, parenting/budgeting classes, and is in general, a resource for low income people. With The Caring Place, all the money stays local to our community.

If you want the cash in hand for them - ebay. Research doesn't take long - it's the pictures and packing that take the longest.

If you don't care about cash in hand - donate them to Goodwill, AMVETS, Vietnam Veterans, Lupus Foundation or some other charity that is near and dear to you and take the tax write-off.

Goodwill,
Salvation Army
VFW Vets
They all take stuff like that, and your donation is tax deductible.

There is a website called freecycle.org you should check out! It's a place where people can give (and take) items all for free.

I live in Victoria TX. My fil and my aunt and uncle had a man come in and give prices on things he would buy from them. They had a ton of antiques (fruniture, dishes, decor ) and were both wanting to down size. It was a sort of house turned into a store for a moment. He would point to the table and say 700 or the chair 200 or a pot 45 and all through the house he went. They sold what they wanted and kept the rest even if he quoted a price on something they wanted to keep.
