Feeling Cold When Pregnant

Hi Moms,

Since my daughter is now 4 this like uncharted territory for me this time around. I am happily (and finally!) pregnant, but all and I mean about ALL of my symptoms are different.

Smells (oils - canola, veggie, olive etc. - even butter) are the worst and I can't stand most hot food. But the oddest is that I am always cold... I do remember being warm all the time with my daughter so this is very new.

Due to my advanced maternal age ( I hate that term) even though I am only 10 weeks I have been though more blood work than you can imagine and I had 2 sono's (got to hear the heart beat!! :) ) so I know it is not anemia. I did have a low side of normal platelet count, but the doctor was not too concerned, although I am getting stuck with another needle next week just to make sure it is not dropping.

So anyway - any thoughts on being cold? As it is I am running around with a sweatshirt over a sweater... but am still cold!

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I was freezing (in July and August) during the first 10 weeks of my pregnancy. I mean frozen in my office... windows open (to let the cool air out) and a sweater. It went away and now with two weeks left I'm constantly hot. I also had real aversion to hot foods and lived off of fruits and raw veggies in the first months. Everything else made me sick!

I agree with Rachel - it could be thyroid. Pregnancy can cause your thyroid to decrease function, which can cause all kinds of issues, one of which is feeling cold all the time. It's easily treated, and just a simple blood test to diagnose it. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Congrats on your pregnancy!

For the record I was always cold when I was pregnant - even in the summer! It just has a way of messing with all of your body systems. =)

LOL this is actually funny. I was always so hot, my face would flush and I would feel like I was sunburning. I never actually got cold a lot, except the beginning of my last pregnancy (#3). I would get cold a lot at work, but we always kept the air conditioning pretty cold.

I am going to assume it's the hormones darling. Congrats on baby #2.

I could never regulate my temperature when pregnant. I would go from freezing to sweating in about 10 seconds. I just knew to wear layers and keep a blanket handy.
