Fabulous OB in the Boise Area???

I am new to the Boise area and hate picking OB's from the phonebook and I haven't really told anyone I am pregnant so I can't ask new friends about an OB. I looked at the reviews on this website for OB's in my area, but it doesn't seem like there are very many recent reviews... Is anyone in LOVE with their OB and would recommend her/him to me?? THANKS!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I called a larger Doctor's office and left a message with the lady who is supposed to set up appointments...she still hasn't called me back. SO...I decided to change and look around for a doctor who I could actually talk to. I ended up going with Dr. Weyhrich after some research. He is very nice and stresses that he wants you to contact him with any questions or concerns. Thanks Venesa B!

Hi J.,

I picked my first OB in Boise out of the phonebook and did not have a good experience. The doctor I have now, though, is wonderful. His name is Darin Weyhrich. Two of my co-workers recommended him when I was looking for an OB GYN before I got pregnant. I highly recommend him.

Brian Hodges is the best, my husband loves him too. I have been seeing him for over five yrs and have had not problems. He is at The Woman's Clinic. I saw others before him and hated them. I have also heard many good things about all the other dr.s in his office. But the only one of the I would know about first hand would be his wife, Nikole Javernick-Hodges. I saw her once in the hospital after c-section, she seemed cool (and I can't stand women OB/Gyns. Give them a try I have not met any who hasn't loved the dr.s in that office. They are on Idaho St. next to St. Luke's, they also have an office in Meridian next to St. Luke's. Good luck.

Hi J.,
I had Dr.Lovelace for my first child and didn't care for him. He seemed a little impersonal. For my second I had Dr. Werdell at the Womans Clinic at St. Lukes, and I loved him - he was AWESOME!

I see you already have a Dr. but wanted to chime in that asking your friends would be best.. they are your friends. And one doesn't need to be pregnant to see an OB, so you don't have to tell them you are pregnant.. yet. Just tell them you are due for a check up!

Best wishes to you!

Treasure Valley Midwives are the best. Teresa and Paula have tons of experience. You can birth just three blocks from the hospital at their birthing center. It's the most relaxed setting you'll ever be in.
Take a class, like the Bradley Method and learn about birth and give your baby the best, drug-free birth you can.
If you really need to have an MD, go with Dr. Bryan Hodges. He is the most relaxed doctor in town with labor following it's natural course. Welcome to Boise!

Hi J., my OB/Gyn is Bryan Hodges and he is totally the best!!!! He is at the Woman's Clinic. Their phone number is ###-###-####. He is the best around, in my opinion! He is very caring and likes to get to know you. I have been seeing him for over five years now and wouldn't see anyone else. He has had to do reconstructive surgery on me and everytime I go in he always makes sure that I am well! He communicates very well! He always explains things in a way that you can understand! I can't say enough good things about him!
Hope this helps!

I have several friends that LOVE Dr Lovelace in Boise. They all say he is very compassionate and kind.

I had Dr Suzanne Anstine and lots of women LOVE her. She takes a ton of time on you and is really sweet, but personally, I didn't like waiting forever in her waiting room, and I mean sometimes 1 1/2 hour wait to see her. Plus she would ask me what I wanted to do and what I thought. I didn't like that. I would rather have her tell me what was best and then be flexible if I disagreed.

I had Dr Bryan Hodges. He was super nice and good doctor. He and his wife practice together at the Women's Clinic, but I heard his wife is harder to see and he covers for her a lot.

I had Dr Kerry Lowder for my last baby. He was my favorite of all of these, and they are all great. He is FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY! At the Women's Clinic. Plus he can do his own ultrasounds instead of an U/S tech, and I had a very dangerous childbirth that I know he saved my uterus, where a less experienced Dr. could have opted for a hysterectomy.

I see Dr. Jackie Maybach at St. Luke's Women's Health Associates. She is wonderful. I was originally referred to her by a friend who is an Internal Medicine doctor in Boise. She is her OB. I feel that another doctor's referral is always good. The office is wonderful. Very attentive, prompt and friendly.

I LOVE Dr. Kerry Lowder at the women's clinic at St. Luke's. He did my c-section (breech) and it was the best experience possible for a c-section. He's also done a few other proceedures for me, and I really like him. He keeps things light, but knows when to back off and let you cry. I just really really like him. Good luck!

I absolutely love my doctor. His name is Dr. Burke Archibald from the Woman's Clinic. You can see him at either the Meridian office or the downtown office (whichever is closer to you) and he delivers at St. Luke's downtown. His assistant, Beni, is absolutely wonderful and makes me feel great everytime I go there, which makes all the difference when your huge and preggo. I've never had a bad experience with them! He really listens to you and your needs. The number for the Woman's clinic is ###-###-####. If for some reason you can't get in with him, I would feel confident going to just about any of the other doctors there. Good luck!

I really liked my OB, Dr. Necole Javernick Hodges. I had a great pregnancy, but I really enjoyed my visits. She has four kids of her own and could really relate to my needs and feelings. She is at The Women's Clinic at St Lukes downtown and they also have an office at St Lukes Meridian.

Hi J., I have the absolute best OB. In fact, if I could use her for everything I would. I really wish she was a pediatrician now. Her name is Dr. Suzanne Anstine. She is at the OBGYN Center located inside St. Lukes downtown. ###-###-####. I can't say enough great things about her professionalism, thoughtfulness and overall practice. Plus, she was actually there for our daughter's birth. My first doc wasn't there when our son was born. Very scary for me. My husband actually really liked her too. I still see her from time to time at Wal-Mart of all places, and she remembers me every time and talks to the kids. She has two of her own now. She didn't have any when our daughter was born. Of course I still see her once a year or when needed. I will never forget how excited she was when our daughter was born. She even took the time to show my husband and I the placenta and how it worked to feed our little girl for 9 months. My husband thought that was really cool. That of course isn't for everyone, but it was so interesting, and she didn't seem in a hurry to get back to what she was doing before I went into labor. I would recommend her to anyone. Good luck and congrats!

I absolutely loved Bryan Hodges at the Women's Clinic. I saw him through both of my pregnancies and he was great. He is very patient and helpful, even if you have what you may think are "silly" questions. He even let my husband help deliver our children. The only drawback I had was that he is super busy and sometimes I had to wait quite a while to get in for my appointments. To me, he was totally worth a little extra waiting in the waiting room!

I absolutely loved the women's clinic at St. Al's and having 4 kids at 3 different hospitals I can't recommend giving birth anywhere else. It was like staying in a 5 star hotel not a hospital. I love the birthing rooms, the food was fabulous and always available. Believe me this is important as someone who has stayed at 2 hospitals that don't have 24/7 cafeteria's and given birth all 4 times in the afternoon. I have been served some pretty nasty food because my birth time didn't jive good with the standard meal time. Giving birth makes a woman hungry! Last time I just asked to go home the next morning before breakfast. I used Dr. Katrina and even though she was good I think anyone in her office on St. Al's campus would be fabulous. If your in Nampa I would recommend Dr. Sean On Iowa St. I loved him during L&D but he doesn't have St. Al's priveleges. Mercy has nice nurses but it's boring to be up all night with nothing to do (there is no cable to watch bad TV even) and pudding out of the fridge gets old.
You will need a pediatrician and I couldn't recommend Boise Pediatrics enough. I love them, my kids love them. We only go to well checks as my kids are rarely ill and they still know us by first name and know my kids. We saw our doctor at the grocery store and she knew my kids names and didn't mind chatting for a minute. We love Dr. Kim best.
In our experience with St. Luke's I can't say it's a bad hopital or has bad doctors (I was so unimpressed I don't remember our doctors name) but I have been unimpressed with how long it takes to see anyone (long appoinment waits) or get responded to and billing was a nightmare. The food is super yummy when you can get some. I think they are a good hospital but they are just too big for the individual attention I prefer.

The Woman's Clinic is Awesome! It's right next to the hospital, that really is nice later on:) I had Dr. Lowder and loved him! When I had my second child with him, he still remembered us and knew my first by name and asked how he was. Dr. Lowder was funny and kept up my smile through the whole pregnancy and labor and delivery! If you are more like my best friend, you might like Dr. West. He was very informative and comforting. He was too touchy feely for me - but it was exactly what my BF needed. I think you can make an appt. to meet with all the Drs. and meet them if you ask. Both are excellent Dr.s - just a matter of a personality that meshes with yours. I think that is very important, you can be grumpy later on and if you have a Dr. that can help you find the happy parts of pregoness it's a good thing:) Good luck!

Hi J.,
Welcome to Boise!
I love my OB and his office. Dr. Dirk Carlson at the OBGYN Center. Their office is connected directly to St.Lukes hospital downtown. St Lukes delivers 70%+ of the babies born in Boise. Dr. Carlson has a great sense of humor and is a good listener. During my first appt he sat and talked with me for almost an hour so we had a chance to get a really good sense of each other's personalities. He understood what was important to me and we had time to talk thoroughly through all of my questions. The office is very efficient & everyone is polite & nice. Parking is super-easy -- just a few steps to their front door, which becomes a big plus late in your pregnancy! :) The dr's in their clinic rotate their delivery rounds. You'll get a chance to meet everyone, but Dr. Carlson will make the effort to be with you at your delivery. I give him five stars! Say hi for me! :)

Hey J.! Welcome to Boise! I have had 2 of my 3 kids here and I love my OB! Her name is Dr. Jones and she is at Horizon Health. It is a small office and she is the only OB there. She dows 95% of her own deliveries! Her husband is a hand surgeon and he practices there as well. They have 4 beautiful girls of their own, so they definitly know about having babies. She is under 40, so young and hip and I absolutely love her. Sometimes you have to wait a while for your appointment, cause someone preggers in front of you has an issue, but you would want the same attention if you had an issue with your pregnancy!

The only advise I have for you in your search is find a practice that is only one or two doctors. My first experience was, well he could deliver or she could deliver or maybe she will and I never even saw a real doctor until I made it to the third trimester....not that nurse practitioners are bad, I just didn't even meet one of the doctors that I saw after having 18 hours of labor and a c-section, and then he kicked me out of the hospital. I was there for less than 48 hours and 12 of them, I was laboring. My recovery was horrible. After 2 more c-sections with a doctor who cares about me (and isn't just someone at the practice who has to come and take care of me) I did so much better, and was in the hospital for 4 days and they made sure I recovered and was doing well before I left! Good luck in your search and your pregnancy!

I am going to concur with most of the other posts - you can't go wrong with any of the doctors at The Women's Clinic. Mine is Dr. Necole Javernick-Hodges and I love her. Her husband, Bryan Hodges is full of personality, as is Dr. Lowder. Good luck getting in to see them!

I also have a friend that goes to Dr. Lovelace and she speaks very highly of him. I used to go to his partner, Dr. Christensen, but he wasn't covered by my insurance plan so I switched to Dr. Necole, but I really liked him too.

Good luck with your pregnancy!
