I am wondering if there is anyone out there like me? I have been divorced for over 7 years and for 6 1/2 of them my daughters choose to live with their dad. Well once I agreed to give them a chance and let them try it out with him. Him toke them from me and I didnt know where they were, and never heard from him or the children again. up till a message that i posted online a little over a year ago that my oldest (now 19) answered. Well now that I know where they are I am a little cautious about coming in contact with the father. And now he wont work with me to come and see them. It is to be only on his terms and i cant take them anywhere. Has anyone have any advice....?????? PLease help... I have no money left to pay for a lawyer.

What can I do next?

I have never experienced this situation, my heart goes out to you. I can't imaginge not seeing my babies for 7 years! But anyway, I agree with the others, GET A LAWYER!!!!!! I know you don't have $, but there are lawyers out there that do pro bono work. Pretty much every firm will take on a certain amount of cases for free, it makes them feel good and it's a tax write off for them. Good luck and I hope you see your girls soon. Let us know what happens.

You can contact legal aid for any legal advice.
You can also contact the first call for help hotline and they have many resources to help you.
You could also contact the police department. Wasn't his taking the children illeagal?

Call a family law attorney asap and get in for a consultation. Bring your original divorce decree with you along with any other correspondence. Good luck.

Call the county that you live in. Almost every county in MN has a program that will at the very least give you free legal advice and answer your questions. After that it is usually a sliding scale. There is no reason that you need to put up with this. Was there ever a legal custody ruling? Oh, and like the other mom said, any paperwork or documents you have should go with you to the appt. They know how to read those things. Good luck.

if your children are adults, he cannot stop them from seeing you or you from them. If one is still a minor, take his butt to court. Find a pro-bono lawyer to try your case.

I have never experienced this but do know that it is somewhat illegal. GET a LAYER know. Know that your oldest is old enough to make her own decisions she can see you as she wishes. She is of legal age as far as the legal system is concerned.
