Double Strollers - Montague,NJ

I'm pregnant with my second child and my first born will be 23 months when my 2nd is born. I'm trying to choose between a side by side or traditonal. I want plenty of storage for diaper bags and shopping and I also want trays. The jogging strollers seem like they would be easier to steer but hard to fit between clothing racks at the mall. I will also be using the stroller for daily walks around the neighborhood which has tons of hills. Which would be best?

What can I do next?

If you go with a jogging stroller I would recommend getting the swivel front wheel (like the BOB revolution) otherwise they are NOT very easy to steer especially with a lot of weight in them. People may tell you that you should get a sit and stand, but if you do a lot of walking I don't agree. My 2 year old uses her stroller a lot, I could see using it for quite a while longer.

Our girls are 24mos apart and we went with a used Phil and Ted. I do a lot of walking and shopping with this stroller and am very happy with the maneuverability indoors and ease of pushing outside in different terrain. I would do light jogging with it but only with the back seat off and one child in the front. We did not find it super convenient when the youngest was not sitting up yet but it was doable. You might be annoyed at the lack of a good place for a bag...ours fits ok on the handle and I use the bags pockets for a cup holder...not ideal. But I have brought a ton of stuff home from the market by using the basket and a mommy hook. Good luck - I too believe there is no perfect solution...just do your best and if you are lucky enough to have room and budget - get a couple of different choices! :)

I third the City Mini recommendation. My daughter was (a big) 14 month old when my son arrived. I have the City Mini and it's SUPER easy to set up and collapse, and the side by side looks big, but it fits through everything. good luck.

I had the traditional. I did not want to take up too much space with the side by side. This was years ago... so i cant help you with a brand.

I just watched a lady try to christmas shop with a side by side. She was struggling bad. She couldnt fit through the department store racks at all.

It took me months to decide on what double stroller to get!

I 2nd the City Mini Double recommendation. My girls are 2.5 years apart - we were on the cusp on being able to do a sit & stand by I still didn't trust my 2 year old enough. It is super light, easy to steer, easy to fold. We put baby in it laying down at 3 weeks. I will say however, that we had a hand-me-down Kolkraft Contours Double that we used for neighborhood walks the first 3 months b/c our car seat fit perfectly (i read so-so reviews on the City Mini car seat adapter). It would NOT be practical for me to fold up & lift it into the trunk for our weekly trip to grandparents apartment complex (I go solo most Sundays). It is super heavy & takes up a ton of space.

Now that my oldest in 3, we are looking to get a Joovy Ultralight sit & stand. I don't regret getting the City Mini at all b/c they have such a good resale value.

If you can afford to get a jogger and a side by side (maybe from craigslist or something) its totally work it. I use our instep double jogger most all of the time. The kids seem to be more comfortable in it, it reclines much easier, you can walk over all sorts of terrain. We also have the McClaren twin triumph that I use for malls or other indoor places. It doesn't handle well on anything that is not smooth. It is really small for a side by side which means if fits through every single door I have had to go through. I think it depends on what you want it for at first. We also had a double graco travel system (that we got off craigslist) that I could attach the car seat too. That was perfect for the first 6 months. It was a beast of a thing but my kids (22 months apart) fit in it perfectly. Then summer came and we found a jogger. That worked better for us then. It seems like you might need a few different ones at different times. Focus on what you need at first, then go from there. In my opinion there are no baby products that work well from birth to toddler and on, you have to buy different things at different times.

i have had them all. personally out of everything i HATED my side by side. it was a pain in the butt to steer and too wide to fit between door ways!

the only one that i have liked a lot have been my joovy sit and stand. it is amazing.

Side by side is for jogging and excursions like the zoo etc. The typical one is for the mall, grocery store etc. We have both for different times. You will use the front/back one more and you will need it for everyday stuff. When/if you buy the jogging stroller, get one with the wheel that move in the front .
Good luck!

I find side-by-side hard to manage plus my 2-year-old can "over-love" the baby in the side-by-side. That said, the jogging stroller is much easier for ME when there is space - but I do have to keep a close eye on them.

p.s. We found our sit & stand hard to manuever - it was a babytrend, I think. We sold it to the consigment store after just a few months.

We currently have a Combi Twin Sport, it is a side-by-side and let me tell you that was a waste of money. I HATE it, it steers great, folds small, and fits through doorways easily. But there is no storage, no cupholders for Mom and Dad ( we had to buy some), the sun shades suck big time, and it's just poorly made. My 2 1/2 year old barely fits in his seat anymore. We have "tested" numerous double strollers to make sure our next investment will be our last. Both of our singleton strollers are Chicco's and the are excellent quality and worth the money, I was so happy to see that they finally came out with a double a few months back. We tried it out at Babies R Us and loved it. But I will be waiting until Spring to purchase it when the price comes down a bit.

I hope this helps. We tried the double jogger first and you are 100% right it is hard to fit down the isles when shopping. This stroller also accomidates the older child and the younger baby.

hi-I just went through this-my children are 28 months apart. I did a lot of research and asked a lot of people. I really had a preference for a traditional. We bought a city select by baby jogger (through a website called joggingstrollers4less.com) It's pricey but I love it. Good luck!

I tried 3 double strollers till I found the one I LOVE.... The double City Mini. It is AWESOME for walking around outside, it folds super easy, it fits everywhere and is very light.

I highly highly recommend a side by side. I tried the front/back and it was awful, soooo heavy (i think like 48lbs) hard to fold and it felt like I was pushing a bus, plus whichever baby sits in the front is very very far away.

It is worth the money, get the City Mini!
