It is my birthday on Wednesday and we are not from here, my mom is coming from Ca. for the week and we are looking for somewhere comfortable, good food; Mexican, Italian, Seafood, Japenese (not huge meat eaters) within 5 miles of Schaumburg area. Medium or a little higher pricing. Any ideas. Thanks, K.

Also and nice lady boutique clothing clothes, medium priced but things you don't find everywhere.

Also looking to buy some good size throw rugs/carpets for our new rental home.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the suggestions. It was great to get them and I have to make sure I don't check them all out or I'll gain 10lbs:-)

There is something for everyone at Maggiano's, but make a reservation!

For good sized throw rugs/carpet do check out Bed, Bath and Beyond -- we got some beautiful rugs from there.

Happy Birthday and welcome to the area! While I haven't found excellent recommendations for the tastes that you have mentioned above (and within 5 miles), I can recommend the following:

Mexican- La Magdalena on Golf Road is always good.
Italian- Maggaiano's, near Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg
Seafood- Pappadeaux in Arlington Heights on Algonquin Road. A lot of people also recommend Dover Straits on Golf Road, I think. We recently found an awesome place that has a Seafood Buffet that is awesome on Friday nights at Port Edwards on Algonquin in Algonquin...so not terribly far away.
Japanese- I LOVE Minami Sushi on Barrington Road (and you get a lot for your money) and Bistro Wasabi on Algonquin in Hoffman Estates.

As for nice ladies boutique's. I would check out the shops in Downtown Barrington. Lots of nice, unique and fairly affordable stores. You might even find your rugs there. If not, check out Tuesday Morning, Home Goods and/or Cost Plus World Market.

Hope this helps!
N.

For seafood another option is Shaws by the mall.

You can always try The Cheesecake Factory at Woodfield Mall. They have the biggest menu I've ever seen. Something for everyone. Also, Entourage (I believe it's in Schaumburg) is really good.
If you're up for a drive, the shops in downtown St. Charles and Geneva are really nice.
Have a great visit.

Well depending on your tastes- for Chinese- Big Bowl is awesome; Bahama Breeze is good for a Carri bean type menu; Gaylords is an awesome Indian Place; for Thai there's Thai Garden which is great; Bonefish Grill is a great place for fish (that's my sister's favorite); and El Meson has great authentic Mexican food but Lalo's is good too and you could swim in their Margaritas. For Japanese Todai's in Woodfield is supposed to be really good. I've never been there myself. Maggiannos is good as well. The Ram on McConnor Parkway is good.Pappadeaux has good seafood but if you don't mind going a little farther out Port Edward's has the best seafood. My Aunt is the GM there so I have eaten at Port Ed's almost all my life.
