Diaper Rash from Using Dollar General Brand Wipes

I have not noticed with Dollar General brand specifically, but can say that other bargain brand wipes have caused a reaction on my daughter, especially if she poops a lot in one day and I have to use them frequently. In this case, once the rash has started, the only thing that won't make her scream in pain is just a plain old washcloth and warm water. So maybe use that until it clears up and then go back to the huggies (or just stick to the washcloths, if you have the time and patience to launder them). I think it has something to do with chemicals that are in the cheaper brands. So I'd steer clear of them from now on.

If you want disposable wipes without the cost and without the rash you can make your own using Bounty papertowels, water and a little babysoap and a little baby oil.

My neice was allergic to certain wipes too. My son was also a little sensitive, but those things are freakin expensive!!! So we used the Pampers Sensitive and they're a little less expensive. We also used cut up T Shirts. i would cut squares and leave them in a small container of just clean water. THe dirty ones went in the "Yucky Bucket" under the sink in the bathroom. and then I just dumped the bucket into the washer with bleach. It saved a TON of moeny because we used them for wipes and face cloths and napkins (out of the clean container of course :)

Anywho, sometimes certain soaps can irritate their skin.

Some people are just more sensitive than others. I quit buying and using any brand of wipes (my second child seem to have a reaction to all of them). I bought good old cotton wash clothes. You can take them with you in plastic sandwiches bags so they do not get everything else in your bag wet. Instead of throwing them out I wash them and re-use.

My daughter has to have pampers sensitive when she has any kind of irriation or diaper rash. When everything is fine down there, I use the Target Brand (unscented).

I usually experienced some kind of reaction with bargain wipes. It's probably the cheap fragrance they use that is irritating. If they're fragrance free, I have no idea. I paid more for wipes, especially with my third because she had sensitive skin.

Over the course of diapering 3 boys, I found each of them to be sensitive to various products - and each one was different. So I am not surprised that your son is sensitive to a particular brand...it could be one of the "ingredients" is a little to strong for his skin - and it likely has nothing to do with the fact that DG is not a national brand. One of my sons had a negative reaction to the Johnsons 3 in 1 ointment, the other 2 were able to use it just fine, one of them reacted to everything EXCEPT for Desitin, and one of them got a rash around his legs where Pampers Diapers (no other brand) elastic let band rubbed him. So, it really seemed to have nothing to do with national vs discount brands as much as the particular child. And as they have gotten older and grown out of diapers and such - they are still affected by different irritants in different ways.

I myself strayed away from the Huggies wipes once. Those other wipes are alot harsher on little bottoms, they seem to have alot of alcohol in them but, they are good for their little hands though.

The best thing I have used for diaper rash is A&D ointment.

My son can only use the Pampers Sensitive wipes and Seventh Generation Diapers, so yes this is possible. I would stop using them and try putting Desitin on him, and get different wipes or use his soap and make some with a soft paper towel. Good luck!!

I haven't had to worry about diapers for several years, but I do remember all of my kids having problems with the bargain brands, either wipes or diapers.

Not to that the wipe isn't causing a reaction. Also keep in mind that certain foods & drinks (especially certain fruit juices) can also bring on a rash. I found that with certain juices, my child would get a bad rash with a 24 hour period. So, observe that as well.

TIP: I found that I could tear of cut wipes in half, and it was typically enough. Now, I would also always use the front dry portion of a diaper to wipe my child from front to back (a great tip another mom showed me), then there wasn't nearly as much to deal with using the wipes. Oh, and refrain from uses wipes on the face of a child younger than 10-12 months old, it can cause break out. Diaper Wipes are not meant for the face, yet many people use them. Especially a child w/ sensitive skin.

Any product that's 'new to you' (foods, detergents, diapers, etc.) might have an ingredient or substance that you (or baby) might be sensitive to. If you're not sure about the wipes, use the Huggies for a while, then try the Dollar store ones again and see if it reacts. If you're sure that's what did it, just use them for yourself or else take them back to the store, get a refund, and just don't use them again on this particular child.

Yes!!! I can't use any wipes besides huggies, on any of my boys, not much has changed in 13years! I have A 13yr. old and A 10 mo. old. It doesn't pay when we try to save money when it comes to baby products, buy the best, A-D ointment is a great rash treatment! M.

Try Target brand wipes, they have different types & work like huggies.

Here is a site that ranks product brands according to their ingredients and then they rate from best to worst. It has helped educate me on what brand to buy from formula to sunscreen and everything in between. There is very little regulation in the cosmetic or personal care industry.
