Dance or Gym Classes for 3 Yr Old

My daughter is almost 3. We have done Gymboree and the 2 yr old gymnastics class (very informal)at a local gym. Im looking for something more structured - everything we do is just running around and being silly. This was fine up until recently. She is ready for more formal instruction, listening and following directions. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

My daughter started doing ballet/tap/tumble classes at 3 and was not a big fan of it. Then we introduced her to gymnastics at Apollo School of Gymnastics a few months later and she loves it. She's 4 now and getting ready to move up into the next level. The 3 year old class was perfect for beginners and has so much to offer with different courses to tackle each week including strength/balance training. The teachers are very kid friendly and are past gymnasts themselves. We get to watch the class in a designated viewing area so it is a nice balance of independence and dependence. They must follow direction in order to participate, it is a wonderful environment, check it out! It's located in Clearwater, I'm not sure where you are, but this is off of Belcher and Range Road near the Long Center.

Dear M.,

My daughter was 2 and 1/2 yrs. old when she began dance classes. She did tap, jazz, ballet, and acro.

Of course at such a young age, the child is going to probably be better at tap or ballet, but usually a dance studio will offer all four types for that age group.

She attended Center Stage Dance Academy on North Dale Mabry in the Carrollwood Village area of Tampa. Extremely professional and yet completely and totally in tune with the needs of young ones just starting out with dance. I could not have been more pleased and my daughter absolutely loved it !!!

She continued at the studio for 12 years. It was one of the best decisions I could have made for her. She loved it immensely and the teachers there were absolutely the best dancers, choreographers, and instructors I have ever seen.

Every year Center Stage holds their dance recital at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in downtown Tampa and the talent, expertise, and the passion for dancing shines in every dancer and every instructor. It was a fabulous experience !!

I would highly recommend enrolling your daughter in dance classes and I believe that she is definitely at the perfect age to start. I would also recommend Center Stage Dance Academy because of their professional attitude, their ability to teach their students to not only love the art of dance, but to embrace it with discipline and passion. They employ nothing but the best in instructors and their students' performances are nothing short of amazing !!

If you are looking for structure and a meaningful learning regimen, then this dance studio is exactly what you are looking for.

I hope this helps with your decision and good luck to you and your daughter !!

My daughter is 5 and is in her 3rd year of dance. She actually started 3 months before she turned three and has been hooked ever since. She loves dancing and being on stage. We are in Land O'Lakes and go to Contempo on 54. I'm sure you would be able to find some place near you that takes three year olds. Dance studio's usually run the same as the school year though. Right now in class they are getting ready for the recital, then we take the summer off and start up in Aug.
Good Luck

I was wondering about that too. My daughter turned 4 in December. My mom wants me to sign her up for karate but I was looking for some sort of dance class, preferably in St. Pete or Clearwater. Let me know how you make out!

La Fluer's, I think that is the spelling. They have it for 18 month olds, which we tried but she was too young. My daughter will be turning 2 next week, and we are thinking of starting there again. They are a lot more structured.

The YMCA has a very structured Gymnastics class. It involves working on the balance bbeans, the trampoline, the bars and a floor routine. I love it. And the kids love that they get performance evaluations to graduate to the next level.

Hi M.,

I would try the YMCA. We took our son and he loved it. The classes are age appropriate yet it teaches skills that can lead all the way to professional compitition.
Hope this helps:)

Don't exactly know where you live in Tampa but on Manhattan Ave there is a dance studio called Brucie Kay's where my daughter use to go to. I believe it is about $44 per month and they do pretty structured dancing. The youngest group is 3-5 and they do a little tap and ballet. She did three months and wasnt interested so I took her out. I have a friend that was in the same class that her daughter still goes to. It's once a week and they have different classes during the week and on Saturday if you work. Hope that helps.

SAfety Harbor Community Center offers classes, once a week, although not sure if you have to wait until she is 4.
