I have a 3 1/2 yr old daughter that I would like to enroll in some kind of dance or ballet class. I have no idea how much it costs or what to look for. Does anyone have any suggestions?

K.,

My 9 year old daughter attends WinKids for gymnastics and she absolutely loves it. The staff and coaches are friendly and experienced. The facility is built to accommodate kids and families (the equipment and layout of facility). Each room has large windows and chairs for family members and friends to watch the classes. They also have a salon and movie room. Below is the web link http://winkids.net/. Hope this helps.

We have been going to Top Hat in Lewisville for a year now. My daughter likes it alot and they have taught her steps that she did not learn at her last ballet school. I have been very happy with what they have done. She has been doing ballet for 2 years now and I think this has been the best school for her and she will be going again during the summer and next fall.
I usually pay for the whole semester so I don't how much it cost month to month. This semester I paid $600 and that included the costume and receital fees for the end of the year receital.

I know this is a little late, but with a new baby at home it has taken me awhile to get back into the swing of things. I used to teach dance and I am very happing at Turning Pointe which is located in Bartonville. Ms Amy is great and has very hight expectation while having lots of fun in the classroom. I have a 5 year old daughter and this is her 3rd dance studio because the other place just weren't good at that although they sounded good up front. It is also age approriate dances. I was morified at the previous places during recital when I saw little girls gyrating! Turning Pointe is alse very reasonably priced!

I read a couple of comments about winkids in flower mound and I would have to completely disagree. It was a complete disaster there. Not only did my daughter not learn anything neither did anyone elses. The recitals were a joke. Overall winkids was nothing but a big disappointment!! Everyone I know has left. There are many other places Excite for one. Good luck!

We have been in Flower Mound for almost a year now and have discovered WinKids! www.winkids.net. They are located off of 2499, between Cross Timbers and 407. They offer all types of dance, swimming, karate, gymnastics, music and different summer camps too! It's great because while one is dancing, the other is swimming AT THE SAME TIME! Great for time management!!! :) The people are super-friendly and it's a great atmosphere for kids to easily try out different activites! Good luck!

Hi K.,

I teach dance in Lewisville (I live on the border of Lewisville and FLower Mound.) I have taught for 4 years in my home. I took off two years after having my fourth child and am starting up again in September. I am very excited! I have a good group of girls lined up (most from my church). I love to have the girls who have never had dance before, becuase I love teaching them what it means to be in a "class" and work with each other and to listen and follow a teacher. Also, it is more inexpensive than a "real" studio and you can get a taste of whether you want to continue with dance and if it something you really want to do more of.

I also love the Footlights studio (very Christian and friendly) and I have heard that Excite is good too. Hope that helps. I would love to have your daughter in my class, but no pressure! Let me know if you are interested. Thanks. J. Putnam

Hi K.,
It's been awhile since I did this, but my daughter had just turned 3 when I enrolled her in dance class here in Southlake with Dana's Studio of Dance... Dana was just starting her dance studio then and it was very small. I wanted my daughter, India to have some interaction with other children since she was the youngest of 4 with 16 years difference between her and her youngest brother. It was the best thing I ever did for India as she LOVED dancing and it developed her athletic skills, balance, social skills and just a plethora of other qualities! She continued with it for 12 years until she just got too big (5'11) after going on Pointe shoes.
We were lucky... we just happened to see Dana's Studio when we were out driving one day. I stopped in and met Dana, asking questions about ages to start them dancing, what she suggested, prices, etc... I also voiced my concern about leaving India at such a young age, whether I should stay to watch her or leave... she said I could let her go back into one of the classes in progress and let her stay back there and see how she reacted but she insisted that all students had to be potty trained before they could enroll. India had been since 11/2 years old so no problem there. India loved it and started dancing with the class that first "trial" day so I enrolled her in classes 3 times a week. She learned very quickly and went on to perform in dance team and won awards every year!
Take a look around your area, find a couple of small studios close by and go in and check them out. Talk to the owners and teachers and ask any questions you want... be sure you are comfortable with everyone your daughter will be with and see how she reacts to them and go from there.
One thing to consider is cost... dance class is not the only one... you will have to purchase three different pairs of shoes, tap, jazz and ballet and the tights and leotards. Plus the yearly recital costumes. However, dance studios usually will offer used shoes for sale since the younger ones grow so fast... and you can sell your child's shoes when she outgrows them there at the studio. They will usually put a price on them and when someone buys them they'll give you the money.
Hope this helps in your decision...
P.

Check out Excite Dance it's located in the back area of Parker Square(where the gazebo is on Main st.) Both of my girls dance here, they do a great job. Class runs about $55.00 a month for a once a week class. You'll probably be predance 1 since she is just starting. In this class they learn ballet and tap. They offer a trial class so check it out. They also do gymnastics,cheer,tumbling,etc...

My daughters go to The Ballet Conservatory on FM 407. The website is balletconservatory.com. The tuition prices can be found at the bottom of the class schedule. You can pay monthly or by semester. Both of my daughters started when they were 3 and my oldest is 7.
I think they will allow your daughter to take a free class to see if she likes it. Mrs. Waters teaches most of the younger ballet classes and she is great. It would be best for your daughter to take a summer class since they are already working on recital dances now and it is too late to join and be in the recital.

My girls have been going to the Ballet Conservatory on 407 for 7 years. we have really enjoyed it; they have a great six week summer program so you can check it out.
It is stricter than other programs but it instills some dance discipline which I appreciate :)
