Curly Hair Salon

Does anyone know a good salon that is able to cut and style curly hair? I've been to Aveda for three years and am not thrilled at all. I need to fix this horrible hair cut I've been growing out since February. My curls now look like straw thanks to the gal at Aveda who used this 'special technique' to thin my hair out a bit. HELP! LOL Les

What can I do next?

I just moved here from Oklahoma and found a great stylist and colorist at the Toni and Guy salon in Lakeline Mall (I usually go to a full-service salon, however the one's I've found just cost way too much and I really like what they've done). I too have curly hair, but only in the back part of my head, but stying and cutting can be issues for me too (my daughter looks like Shirley Temple)! The stylist's name is Tan and I also have been to Claudia who has curly hair! And the Colorist is Levi. I live in Leander so I like the short distance I have to go. Also, my mother-in-law is moving here this week and will be the new Manager at the new Great Clips shop in Leander (next to Lowes off of 183). It will open in Oct, however she'll be working at one in Austin (don't know where exactly). She cuts my daugther's hair and knows how to cut it since it is so curley. Her name is Barbara Hall, but I don't know what kind of salon you are looking for? Hope this helps? Let me know where you go!

I would consider making an appointment with one of the beauty schools - I go to The Academy Paul Mitchell school in Pflugerville. They are probably the most up-to-date on hair trends and have probably had fresh training on handling curly hair. They also have a lot of talent to choose from, so they could put you with someone who has worked with curly hair.

Hope that helps,
A.

L...first let me say that I have curly hair as well and there are many tricks to cutting, styling and even coloring curly hair or hair with a great deal of texture. I am also from California just moved here 2 months ago and we love it here. I am a hairdresser of 15 years in Los Angeles and next week I will start working here in Austin at Thomas Saverio Salon and Spa. It is located where the 183/1 meet off the 2222. Its as amazing space and if you would like to come in for a free consultation we can discuss your hair and products that can help. You can also check out the website at thomassaverio.com Hope this helps and I hope to meet with you..take care

I have had some bad experiences with people who supposedly understand curly hair so I understand your frustration. I highly recommend Nancy Day at 4011 Duval Salon in Hyde Park. I do not live in Hyde Park, I drive to go have my hair cut. Her number is ###-###-####. She does use Aveda products. Nancy has curly hair herself so understands curls. If you go tell I said "hello"

Hi L. - Check out www.naturallycurly.com. I know the founders and they are based right here in Austin! I have wavy hair that used to be board straight so I've never had to fight the big curls. :-)

Good luck!
