Creative Ways to Reveal "Kitten" on Christmas Morning

I have 2 girls; 3yr. & 4yr. old who are absolutely head-over-heals in love with cats. My husband and I decided that no present could be more perfect for Christmas than to get them a kitten. They have absolutely NO IDEA that we are getting a kitten as we have not hinted at it at all. Our plan is to have Santa deliver the kittens on Christmas Eve. I need some creative ideas on the actual presentation on that magical morning when they come downstairs and see all the presents under the tree!!

Thanks in advance mommies! ;-)

We wrapped all the kitty essentials and had them under the tree then had a note to have my son close his eyes and hold out his hands. WE hid Rudolph in the laundry room that night.
We didn't have any issues with stressing out the cat either. He was the best gift my son said he ever received. My son is now 20 and he got Rudolph at 4. The kitty has since died a long time ago.
Put a bow on the kitties or a jingle bell collar.
Go to softclaws.com and get those claw covers for his feeties. My cat could care less that they are on and it really helps.

You might want to consider giving the kitten either before or after Christmas. It is stressful enough for the new animal to adapt to their new home. The excitment of Christmas just adds to that. We did a puppy before Christmas and told our son, he was 16, it was his early Christmas gift.

I would also suggest if you do it before hand tell them that Santa has a gift for them that he is delivering early. If you want to do it afterward then have Santa write them a letter telling them that there is another gift they will get on ...

My friend got a kitten for her daughters birthday. Some of the gifts were a scratching post, toys for the kitten etc...
They then went to the local animal shelter to pick out a kitten.

How about putting the kitten in a stocking right before the come down? This would probably only work with a mellow kitten- if there is such a thing! lol

Maybe something as simple as a little bow around it's neck and have it laying in its own little kitty bed or even in a box with holes punched out in the back so the girls can't see the holes. Just make sure it's done right before they come downstairs so the poor kitty isn't in the box too long.

I think no matter how it is done, they will love it. My grandparents surprised my brothers and I with a kitten for easter one year when we got home from visiting family. It was one of the best easters for us and one we will always remember.

I'm sure you've gotten lots of 'creative' ideas for the presentation of the gift, but my input would be to -- if at all possible -- get TWO kittens. They are so fun to watch playing together and there'd be one for each girl to teach them responsibility for their OWN kitty. Just make sure they look different enough to tell them apart. My mom always said 2 kittens are the best entertainment in the world. Of course, 'the trouble with a kitten is that -- eventually it becomes a cat', but all of us living beings get less 'cute' as we age! LOL

Children at 3 & 4 are to young for a kitten. They do not understand how gently you have to handle them so as not to harm the kitten. Instead of a live cat, why not get them so furreals and tell them that when they are older Santa will bring them a real kitten.

I would put them in a big wrapped box and let the kids find them on Christmas morning! But if you want to do it Christmas Eve, you can put them in a closet, in the garage, in another room, in a box in the bathtub, etc and have the kids ALL go together to find something for you....."go get mommy ____ in the other room please". You could even do a scavenger hunt! You read the clues as they go around the house following the hunt. You could have someone knock on the door with a 'delivery' for ?,?, and ?...(their names). then he/she can say, "Santa sent me early with a present....
You could just be sitting in the living room watching tv with them and then just let the kittens loose and eventually they will walk over to your kids and they will be surprised!!!

What a great gift!

This is a very serious commitment you are making to children. REalize the long term here.. food, shots, spayed or neuter, litter box, litter, and lots of care. They are cute, but they grow and have many requirements. Go to a shelter, you should never have to pay for a kitten, MANY needing homes in every city. With that said.. put a bow around the kitties neck and have it in a box (no lid) that is wrapped with a big bow and a note from Santa telling them the care needed with this precious little creature. Good luck, Merry Christmas, and God Bless.

You could play like you found a piece of yarn on the floor and have the kids follow the yarn that's tied to the place where the kittens are (in a laundry basket, closet, etc.)

I too was in love with kitties as a child. For my 5th Christmas, we got up in the morning and opened all of the traditional gifts. Then my dad stayed with me downstairs because my mom "forgot" a present upstairs. (you could say santa left one present in mommy and daddy's room because it was too special to leave by the tree) She went up and got the kitten and put him in a nice box with a bow (I'm sure it had holes, but as a kid I didn't notice that). She brought it down to me and my dad had the camera ready. The kitten (Pooches as I horribly named him after a cartoon dog named Poochie) was in the box for less than 45 seconds because I simply lifted off the lid and was in utter shock and completely in love and sooooo happy. That kitten and the cabbage patch kid I got the following Christmas remain the best memories I have.
