Does anyone have any suggestions for a Colicky baby? Our first child was also colicky and we went through then all the different formulas etc. I am looking for anything else that may help. Has anyone tried the tummy massager from One Step Ahead or the Miracle Blanket (which looks to me just like a swaddler)? Ill take any suggestions.

What can I do next?

I see someone has suggested Colic Calm, AKA Gripe Water. My mother-in-law swears by it. It's vegetable based. She said she would dip the pacifier in it and let the baby suck on it. She said it was the only thing that kept her sane. You can order it on line or find it at vitamin outlets. You'll have to call around.
Good luck, and hang in there. If it's really colic, it will will stop.

Hello D.,
Both of my children were colicky! With my first, who will be 10 next month, this was a very lonely and exausting time. After 6 very long months we figured out that he was allergic to dairy and soy. I was nursing him and had to take all of these products from diet. If you have tried all of the diet ideas, then cosleeping worked for us as well. Dr. William Sears has a book which also helped me immensely called, "Parenting the High Need Child". It is wonderful! Also the sound of the vaccuum cleaner would put both of my kids to sleep, if you can stand the sound of it.
My second child, who is now 6, had acid reflux, and was better after getting meds. I hope this helps! S.

My first son was very colicky also and our pediatrician said it was from Acid Reflux. He would cry inconsolably like he was in pain. When we gave him the acid relux medicine he was a whole different baby--much happier and calmer. You might ask your pediatrician if this could be causing the problem.

hallo-
i also have a screamer:)
she is turning 4 months on monday and it has not gotten any better, how old is yours?
I have read so many books, articles ect. and tried pretty much every trick in the book but nothing seems to work, it is so overwhelming, and I can not even imagine having another child too on top of it... Olivia is my first
I suppose I do not have any great tips other then I do notice and also I heard and read a lot that the baby should sleep every 2 hours for at least 30 min. I rock mine in a stroller I just drive it back and forth
My heart goes out to you if you need to vent to someone feel free to write to me
Also sometimes when nothing alse works I go outside and scream for a minute it feels pretty good :)

Hi D.,

What really helped me for my colicky baby was to use a sling to carry him.

He was a lot better by six months of age. How old is your little one?

My two months old had severe gas and colic issues and was on Zantac for whole two weeks but nothing helped unless I put him on Babies magic tea.

My son had colic for a long time and we just suffered through it. My chiropractor had suggested that we try getting him adjusted, but we never followed up on it. I guess, if you've tried everything else, that may be an option for you.

How old is your baby? Is it too late to try nursing him/her instead of giving formula?

Hi D.

I don't have experience with official colic...but have had some luck with gripe water for fussiness due to tummy issues for my baby. I have friends who have had the official colic issue and they are the ones who turned me onto Gripe Water. I bought mine at Whole Foods. It is by a company called Wellements, comes in a blue box. It is organic and has no chemicals/preservatives or dyes in it, which I love...but therefore must be refrigerated after opening. A word of caution: it had the tendency to cause very "messy" diapers.

Also...I played the "switch-the-formula" game with my older two because of tummy issues. With my third, I put her right on Allimentum after one month old and she was like a new baby. She didn't 'spit-up' anymore and became extremely talkative. I know the formula game is sooo tiring and can often remain a mystery, but it would definitely be worth a shot. Your baby is most likely colicky because he/she doesn't feel well.

One last thing - the Kroger by my house happened to carry the same Gripe Water that I found at Whole Foods (convenient). But be warned...It also carried the Little Tummies brand of gripe water and I read the ingredients and was horrified to see a paraben preservative in there. Parabens are in most cosmetics and are highly suspect in being realated to cancer. I hesitate to put anything with parabens on my skin and definitely not on my children's....but I couldn't believe a company would actually put it in something a baby was INGESTING! If you go the gripe water route...read the ingredient list.

Good luck.

HI D.,
Since your requests talks about formula, I am not sure if you are breastfeeding too. If you are, read on......... Be careful about what foods you are eating as this is transferred on to the baby. Avoid gassy and spicy foods at all costs. Broccolli, Cauliflower, Onions, Beans, greasy foods, processed foods. Focus on a bland diet right now, (I know, BORING!)

Good Luck
