Chiropractor Treatment Benefits

OK, I am curious here. I would like to ask chiropractic patients who have experience using them for health issues OTHER than for muscle and joint alignment pain. I have no bias.

It is hard to imagine why the Chiropractic treatments can do anything more than help with the above. So, patients and former patients, what have you tried that worked or didn't when it was unmistakenly from a chiropractor.

And I'd prefer that no one in the industry, or a relative, respond.

Start it out with a "Thumbs Up" or a "Thumbs down" and then what you went to them to fix and why you went to them. Now, I am not talking about homeopathy that many of them do as well. Just chiropractic treatments.

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all your responses. I didn't expect so many THUMBS UP for sure. I am surprised too because insurance usually doesn't cover but a handful of chiropractic treatments so many of you must either love to be adjusted or you have felt convinced that it worked for you. It is so HARD for me to GET why a well aligned spine can have anything to do with allergies, immune system, earaches, sinus infections, etc. But you know what, I'm going to try.

How about some of you from the Dallas Ft Worth metroplex naming the doctors if you thought they effectively helped you in that way?

Thumbs up. My son was off his rocker due to his allergy meds so we had to pull him off of everything. We started going to the chiropractor for it and while his symptoms aren't perfect he's doing really well given that he is taking no meds. He's not completely stuffed up at night like he was (even on the meds), his snoring is gone, he's not wiping his nose or sneezing constantly.

Thumbs up. I went because I was in tremendous pain & was losing the ability to walk. My regular doctor was telling me that it was probably a virus & I'd get well in a few months (yep, I have little kids, I work & was supposed to be OK with a few months of complete debilitation). Not only did the chiropractor have me walking well and pain free in a few visits, after a few treatments, I RAPIDLY lost 5 pounds without doing anything else differently. That part seems weird, I know - but it's true.

thumbs up - we have used chiropractic care for reflux in my second child, general muscular ailments for all of us, and some recurrent colds/stuffiness in my kids. We see our child once a month or every few months, more often when we feel like we need to.

I think something to consider with things like reflux, is that they can be caused by a joint or muscular dysfunction and so they can be remedies with physical work. There are many things that have multiple causes, and while chiropractic may not work for everyone, it is a pretty noninvasive thing to try.

We get our 8 month old adjusted every month - just to keep things aligned and it helps with stuffy noses, ear infections (he hasn't had a single one yet) and he sleeps better at night. Thumbs Up.

Thumbs up with an asterisk. I am a fan of chiropractic, and I have been pleasantly surprised at the symptoms that have disappeared as a result of being properly aligned. I used to think that I "carried my stress" in my neck/shoulders. Once I was properly aligned, I have had no more issues with that. (Oh, I'm still stressed out, but my neck just doesn't tense up anymore.) Also, I don't have migraines like I used to. So - while I don't think chiropractic can cure all ills, it can have a positive (and sometimes unexpected) effect on a lot of different problems that you might not think were related to being mis-aligned. I do NOT think it keeps a person from getting sick, or cures cancer or any of the other assertions I've heard. But I do think that if a person is not in constant pain from mis-alignment, that their immune system probably has a better chance of fighting off illness. So, like I said, a thumbs up with an asterisk. =)

THUMBS UP!!!! My husband has has allergy problems his entire life. He has always had to take allergy med at least 3 to 4 times a week and during the summer almost everyday. During the winter he would come down with a cold an it would he him hard to the point of missing a few days a work. He has been seeing the same chrio for since Oct. of 2009 and the improvements are incredible. He only takes allergy meds now maybe once or twice a month and that is usually becasue he has been in a house with cats. (he is a plumber) Last winter he got one minor cold and as of this winter he has not been sick. Totally worth every penny!!

Good Luck!

THUMBS WAY UP! I used to have allergies, no longer. I used to have issues eating fried foods. No longer. When I get the flu, that's where we go! I'm going to tell you up front tho, my hubby is a chiropractor. BUT before we met I thought he was crazy! I went to the doc for everything! To be completely honest, we have had all 3 of our kids at home, none of them have ever seen the inside of a doctors office, and they are all incredibly healthy. Your spine is connected to EVERYTHING! If you align it, YOUR BODY, not chiropractic can clear out the issues. Don't hate me for posting! I'm not going to give out his name or anything! Just feel very passionate about it and had to post. :o(

Thumbs up. I used to get chronic sinus infections, and my mom suggested a chiropractor. I went, and my sinus infections stopped! It apparently had to do with my neck being out of align so that my sinuses couldn't drain properly. I also noticed improvement in my overall health, although I couldn't pinpoint a specific thing - maybe because I was sleeping more soundly?

I've since taken care of the underlying issue that was causing my sinuses to reinfect, so I no longer go, but I think it's worth a shot to check out if you have got something going on and nothing else is working. At worst, you waste some money. Just do research first and make sure you go to a good one.

THUMBS UP!
My 16 yo was born 2 month premature. Luckily she only had to stay in the hospital for 1 month, but when we brought her home, she had some problems with projectile vomitting anytime she ate. I'm talking - across the room projectile vomitting! After trying several other options, I decided to take her to a Chiropractor I used to see. After just one adjustment, the vomitting slowed down considerably - basically just your normal spit up. After a couple treatments - no more spitting up at all! He also helped us over the years with ear infections!
I am a HUGE fan of Chiropractors for just about everything...but as someone else mentioned - you can find 'bad' ones just like you can find a bad pediatrician. Good luck on your research!

I started going to a Chiropractor late last year (and I'm 40!) and all my fears were removed by her (Dr. Safina Rahimi in Allen - ###-###-####). I am a pet sitter so walking dogs all day, scooping litter box, handling horses, and all the driving, had my neck, back and even hips out of whack. I tried getting massages but they never really took care of my knotts - I am a different person 5 months later!

My husband is a baseball coach and his shoulder movement and lack of pain since starting with Dr. Rahimi has amazed him.

Our three children (twins that are 9 and a son that is 5) also go monthly. Between allergies and the flu season, I wanted to get them the best protection possible without all the medicine, and they LOVE going to Dr. Rahimi. They had a small cold this past Christmas break but it was gone faster than usual AND they still had energy. They also sleep better which is nice.

Hope all this helps!

I have Fibromyalgia and get very, very sore. My chiropractor is one of a dying group I think. he would take me in and do ultra sound on my back then do EMS with 3 different machines. One on the lower back, one on the shoulders and one on the neck. Then he would take me in a room with a divided table the dropped down on one end. He waould have me lay face down and move the lower half of the table around while massaging my back to get my muscles unlocked. I would be totally jello when he was finished. I would lay ont he adjustment table and he would simply pull my head about 1/4-1/2 inch and the whole back would just line up very noisily. I was pain free and loose, muscles very useful, I could even lean on a table or counter top and not be in extreme pain.

Thumbs up. I only go to my chiropractor for muscle and joint alignment pain, but after a friend said that chiropractic helped her children's ear infections after tubes and antibiotics did not, I began taking my daughter. The difference has been dramatic. She used to get every bug that came around, stuffy nose, cough, ear infection, etc. Now she does not. So, for myself, I can't say I've noticed a big health difference (but I'm pretty healthy in general), but for my child, I can't praise chiropractic treatments enough.

And in case I'm not clear, I have noticed a huge improvement in my own muscle and joint pain, but that wasn't what you wanted to hear about. :)

I have gone to them my entire life. Or at least it seems like it. But not all are good cause I have seen some bad ones. I have herniated disks and mine has helped with that. But you wanted to know about not muscle or joint. I take my kids or myself to ours anytime we start to get sick. My kids both have asthma. And the adjustment releases indorfens that promote healing in the body. They have not had a thrid of the breathing treatments or Dr/Er visits since I have been getting them adjusted. They have helped with my migrains. Mine does acupuncture sometimes too. She will also work on my sinus' and help me when I have conjestion. My chirpractor is more my primary care Dr. than my regular Dr.

Thumbs UP! I have used a chiropractor for almost 6 years now. I had bad issues with my sinuses(sp?) plus other issues. My chiro has helped in large ways! My husband was unable to twist in anyway and has since been able to move. Our well being and quality of life has gone way up since we started our appointments. Thats why after 6 years, we are still going to him. If you find a good chiropractor, they are worth it!!
p.s. our chiro using this accuator (sp?) thingy instead of manual adjustments. It is like this clicky thing. We love it!

Thumbs UP!

I was to the point where I could hardly walk because I was in so much pain. Not only in my lower back and hips, but I was also suffering from heel pain as well. After visiting with my Chiropractor for 4 months (3 times per week) I am completely pain free! Turns out I had a tilted vertebrae in my lower back that was causing all the problems. It is also possible that this same vertebrae was the cause of my fertility problems. It was blocking signals from getting to where they needed to go.

I might also add that my allergies are much better too. There would be mornings when I went in to see here with a stuffy head. After some neck adjustments I could breath easily again.

Thumbs down! but have to admit that it was probably the person I went to. My husband went to a chiropractor and noticed a brochure about treating allergies. He convinced me I should go as well but then found out that the guy he was seeing was not on our insurance and we picked a different chiropractor. I spent 2 hours there and she told me that I was out of alignment, taped my back, and made me hold metal rods hooked up to a low electrical current to treat my allergies. Needless to say it didn't do anything but make me sore for 3 days after and make me frown at chiropractors in general. I know I should go to a different one and retry but I'm having a hard time convincing myself.

Thumbs DOWN!! A couple of years ago I was having shoulder pain and since there was a chiro in my gym I thought it couldn't hurt to give it a try. Well, my very heallthy back that had NEVER gone out in my life started to go out on me! It was the classic "out" where you really cannot move and it was very scary. I asked the chiropractor why this happened and she said it was normal to get worse b/f getting better. To me that was total BS. I stopped going and will never go back.

The only good thing was the trigger point massages that I go there...they really do help. But you can get them at other places besides chiropractor's offices.

If you're in the FW area, you should consider setting up an appointment with the osteopathic manipulative treatment dept and the medical school there (UNTHSC-TCOM). The treatments are very similar, if not the same, to chiropractors and they'll do a great job explaining some of the science behind your question. They're licensed doctors so your insurance would probably cover it too!

Thumbs way UP! It does usually get worse before it gets better, not BS! The reason it works is because the nervous system (housed in your spinal column) controls every function of the body, so naturally when a disc is out of alignment, there is nervous system interference, which causes dis-ease or malfunction. I've been adjusted since I was little, I'm sick less often and most as severe as others, it's helped with many many conditions, as well as helped my daughter's colic and ear infections. It also helped my friends daughter with bedwetting, and my sisters son with asthma and allergies.

Medicine has it's place and is sometimes necessary but we don't get sick or hurt because we don't have enough Medicine in our system, I say work with what we have first. When you break an arm it can be reset and castes but the body heals itself if put into proper position first. Starting with birth, our bodies go through many forms of stress of trauma often throughout life. I like to compare it to the gym or dentist- you go both of those places fir life to take care of your body and teeth, why wouldn't you take care of the spine you will also have forever? It's your bodys lifeline! The healthiest and oldest people I know are also chiropractic patients!

Hi C.,

I know this is an "old" question but saw it and want to throw my two cents in...My family and I go to the largest pediatric chiropractic clinic in the Southeast. I have SEEN so many wonderful things over the last six years that I scream "Chiropractic" from the roof top! The most recent is the behavior of an EXTREMELY autistic 9 year old. He screamed and yelled when he first came into the clinic and was simply maniacal, to the point of biting. Three months later he bounces in with a smile and hugs for everyone...including the other patients waiting. His mother says he is the most obedient child in his class now where he was the worst...My sinus issues are gone. My Ulcerative colitis that I had lived with since age 11 is completely gone with chiropractic care and a simple diet change. My husbands blood sugar numbers are down from the high 400s to the mid 100s (he fell from a ladder onto concrete and injured his pancreas three years ago). No meds!

I don't have the info at my fingertips but read an article on the benefits of chiropractic during the pnuemonic plague of the 1920s. There was a substantially smaller death rate among chirpractic patients than allopathic patients. The spinal column is like the electrical panel of the computer. If it is firing on all cylinders, neurologically speaking, the immune system is working at it's optimum level and fighting off all threats.

In the Australian medical system, chiropractic care is their first paid line of defense...then homeopathy, then allopathy...We as Americans depend on allopathic medicines so much that the contraindications of medicines have created new disorders....

Like I said, my two cents....and yes THUMBS UP!

M. :)
