Ok my daughter father has a child support order in IL, where we all live right now, to provide cash each week as well as health insurance including dental and vision. It has been working fine with no problems. I really am thinking of making a huge move out of state for a better opportunity. He will not contest the move---he doesnt see her but has always provided support. My question is what will happen with the health insurance? He currently provides BC/BS of IL and if I move out of state will he have to provide insurance in the state I move or can I request that he provide the equivilant that he pays in insurance costs through his job in cash so that I can get insurance in the new state? I would like advice from people that have done this or had experience with this issue. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

You really need to check with your insurance company and an attorney.

The thing is if he has employer provided insurance he doesn't pay the full amount of the insurance. No court is going to make him pay more just because you want to move. That is your choice.

I work in a medical billing office and we get claims from all over the country but the address is St Louis, so he may be able to continue the insurance regardless of where you live so like I said, call the insurance company.

This was a while ago but - when I first moved way from home, I was still a dependent of my parents. They had BCBS in one state, and I was living in another state. At that time, BCBS in different states had mutual agreements with each other, so as long as my doctors participated in BCBS in the state I lived in, my parents' BCBS would cover the visit.

You'll obviously want to call your BCBS to see if it still works that way. But it's worth looking into before you start considering more complicated stuff.

I live in FL, and my job provides BCBS of IL as my health insurance. I don't think that would be a problem. I don't know how that works but I know my health insurance is BCBS of IL

My daughter's father has to provide her health insurance. The health insurance is Blue Cross of Idaho. We live in Oregon. It's never been a problem. Call the insurance company& ask.

All he has to do IF court ordered is to provide it. It's up to you to find the docs on the list to go to. You need to call the insurance provider to see where the nearest docs are that take that insurance.

Our court order states if there are medical bills not covered by insurance then the mom and the dad must pay the bills. This was put in so that we would not accrue debt if one of my grand children ran up a bunch of bills for medical treatment.

SO if he's ordered to provide insurance then it's up to you to use it. He can't be forced to pay for health insurance that is more costly than he's already paying because you want to live somewhere else. He's meeting his obligation required by this document.

My granddaughter's father lives in AZ and has BC/BS insurance covering her. She lives in Oregon and his insurance is good here. I had BC/BS insurance in OR and moved to AZ and my insurance continued to cover me in AZ tho the plan was administered in OR. The plans are both preferred provider plans and we just have to use the pp in the state in which we live.

BC/BS has offices all over the United States and covers you where ever you live. Her father just has to notify BC/BS of her new address. If it's thru his employment he goes to the employer's Human Resources office to do this.

You have to check with his insurance company. They will tell you what needs to be done. They may cover you wherever you go, or have a subsidiary/sister company in the other state that may cost him more. Only the insurance company can answer you. My husband supplied insurance for my step daughter at one point and our NY insurance covered her in PA.
