Changes in Cyle Long After Pregnancy

Hi moms,

Did you notice any change with your cycle after pregnancy? I'm talking long after, not post natal. My two kids are 5 and almost 2 and I'm noticing that I bleed pretty heavily during my ovulation time- nothing that requires a tampon, but certainly a couple of panty liners (sorry for being graphic but I'm looking for information!). It usually lasts about 2-3 days. There is no pain associated with it. Is this normal? I never had this before I was pregnant. Should I make an appointment with my obgyn? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Mine changed about 7 yrs after I had my first, going from very irregular to just a bit off, missing a month or two instead of 5 or 6. Then I got a surprise pregnancy and it went more normal. But then changed again about a year later. Then after my second surprise (we were using BC then) I had my tubes done and now totally normal, every month. When I was going through infertility I learned a lot. Hormones can really change over time and with each major event (pregnancy, menopuase, internal injury to ovaries or what have you). If you are ever not sure of something, always see the doc. It never hurts to ask. If this happens every month and is not just a little spotting, I would definitely ask about it. The doc may want to do an ultrsound just to see what is going on.

I have breakthrough bleeding (ovulation time). Are you on birth control?

On birth control, it can be related to hormone changes. I have several friends who do the same.

Just mention it next time you're in to see your doctor or for an exam.

Mine has gotten worse since pregnancies, and as I get older. I told my doctor about it, and she checked me over and said it was fine. Just to let her know if it ever got painful or very heavy.

Good luck :)

Could be perimenopause.

My guess is that it may be more related to natural changes that some with (gulp!) aging, and not specifically related to the fact that you were pregnant. I'd give the doctor a call and discuss it by phone to decide if you need an appointment. They may have additional questions to ask about other things that you may or may not have (or may not have noticed), and those things will determine how soon you should go in to be seen or whether you can wait for your annual exam. But I wouldn't panic - just discuss.

my gyn put me on a bcp when my daughter was 1. after the first year everything was fine and a few months later i started to experience headaches and migraines associated with my period. i talked to the dr since it was a new and bothersome thing.

i recommend that you bring this up with your gyn. it could be nothing but it could also mean something is up that needs the dr to fix.

so to answer your question yes, see your dr. (if you are getting close to your yearly bring it up then but if your yearly is more than 5 months away i would make an appt)

How old are you? I can tell you that I started having perimenopause symptoms (insomnia, in my case, and some weight gain) at age 45, and my cycle has been really wonky for the past several years (since age 47 or so). So depending on your age, you might be getting into the zone.
