Can I Be Pregnant? - Fort Worth,TX

I have been taking birth control pills for the last 5 or 6 months now. I always start my period on a Sunday and end by Wednesday when I start my new pack. Well this last time I started spotting on Monday into Wednesday morning. I took 3 pregnancy tests and 2 came out negative and one came out positive (Showed one dark line and one faint line). Could I be pregnant? Has anyone ever had this happen before? I called my doctor and they said to continue taking my pills for another week and then take another test to see if I am pregnant? If I calculated it right, if I am pregnant I would only be 4 weeks pregnant. I got a positive test result at 5 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child.

What can I do next?

false positives are very rare, especially if you arent on fertility drugs, which i assume you arent.

i dont know why your doctor would suggest to keep taking the pills and retest. pills dont affect a pregnancy test, and although they say the pills now shouldnt hurt a fetus, better to be safe. if it were me, i would get 2 more tests today. take one today, if negative, take the other tomorrow am with first urine. if either shows positive, i would say you are pregnant, and call the doctor to ask for blood test. tell them you are concerned since you were on the pill, you are unsure of when this baby was conceived. its very important to date a pregnancy correctly for measurements and the heartbeat, but being on the pill, you cant be as sure of conception. good luck, not sure how you want this to go.

ETA- i would use condoms though as birth control until this is sorted out, then if not pregnant, just start a new pack next month.

There's no such thing as a "false-positive" with these tests. It can come out negative depending on how early you tested to the time of day. But, once it comes out positive--Congratulations! I would stop taking the BCP's though. It can be harmful to the baby. If it turns out that by some weird coincidence that you aren't pregnant, you'll just have to start the pill over again and use another form of birth control for 1 month.

I would stop taking the pills until I found out for sure. Wait a few days and retest. I had a false positive test once, it was heartbreaking. But they are rare.

a pregnancy test tests for the presence of HCG. The ONLY way your body produces HCG is if you are pregnant or have a particular type of tumor. (It is possible to get a positive pregnancy test and then several weeks later get a negative one, that means you were pregnant and then had an early miscarriage, not that you were not really pregnant.)

I personally would not risk the safety of a child I was carrying by taking BC pills for another week or two like your doctor said. If I were you I would use another method or abstinence until I could figure out if I was really pregnant or not. Hope that helps!

4 weeks is pretty early to get a positive test. But sounds like you are preggers!! I would just wait a week a take one again. Always use the first pee of the morning.

Sounds like you are pregnant! I agree with the other moms, stop taking the BC pills and retest at first urine, when it is early pregnancy the second line is fainter, but like the other moms say... there are no false positives! Best wishes and God bless!

Stop taking the pill and get the clear blue easy preg test that spells out pregnant or not preg. I used the first responce test and it showed a very faint second. I thought it was an evaporation line. So I went the next day and bought the clear blue easy. no mistake, it spelled out pregnant.
