What brand do you moms use i'm going with Corelle have several of their items & they haven't failed me had them for 2 years & since I always break dishes while washing they've droped but never broken,chipped,cracked,even the white ones are still white not stained.They are very expensive but if I get them from Walmart they are exactly what price i'd like to pay for the quality.
When looking around for dinnerware Walmart was the cheapest in price the same exact set was 26.97 something like that @ Walmart then searched Sears or my goodness the price was increased dramaticlly.They hold up I don't like the heaviness of others or the thickness I use that type of thickness platters bowls etc. to serve on for parties not for everyday meal plates.The patterns aren't that great but plin white is a good choice,there is another pattern I liked that will also match just not anything with hearts or a funky floral pattern so not me
I always buy Corelle but I've never thought of them as being expensive (at least, as far as dish sets go). LOVE them, and wouldn't buy anything else for my standard "everyday" dishes.
I LOVE Corelle. It holds up without chipping/breaking for a lifetime (well, you CAN break it but you really have to work at it!), and it is very compact if you have as little shelf space as my kitchen has. I've had mine for well over 30 years and have yet to lose a piece. If it gets a little stained, a quick scrub with Bon Ami cleanser restores it to like-new white.
I've been looking for a long time for a USA-made dinnerware set.
Commonly found-its either Corelle or Fiestaware.
Both are CHEAP compared to the alternatives for USA made stuff.
I'm looking at Corelle patterns now, but I won't buy at Walmart, for sure.

I'm a Fiesta dinnerware gal all the way. I like the cheerful colors, mixing them blindly with good results and their durability. I can always find sales when I am in the mood to add pieces so that is an added bonus. Good luck.
We are Corelle here has well. We replaced our heavy stoneware that was doing this weird cracking and oozing thing...and have been happy.
The Corelle drinking glasses (that I do not think they sell anymore) did not hold up, so we bought an inexpensive 6 or 8 pack of plain glasses from Target. I would not consider them overly expensive for the quality and durability. My MIL *still* has her original set of Corelle.
Our "fancy plates" are a set of Mikasa we received as a gift. We honestly rarely use them.
I bought some plain black stonewear at Walmart 17 years ago. There is no brand name on them, and they were pretty cheap. Anyway, I've never broken one. My china is Royal Albert Petit Point I inherited from my mother. It sits in the china cabinet.
My everyday is Corelle solid white. I found a store that sold it by the piece and I have about 20 plates, bowls, and extras that are used routinely. NO coffee cups/saucers since we don'y use that. I bought the exact pieces we needed and in extra quantity.
Everyday Stainless is good, heavy and by Oneida.
I don't know what Walmart has because I boycot Walmart/Sams and anything to do with that company.
My china is Osbornne by Wedgewood which was very expensive and the silver is Golden Winslow by Kirk Stieff. We rarely use the good stuff but we do use the good custom dining table.
You can't beat the plain white Corelle... it goes with everything!
About a year ago I purchased Corelle contours in plain white. I like that the bowls and plates have a place to grab onto them. I got them out the outlet and don't remember what I paid. I like them because they are durable and don't get marks on them from the dishwasher. I had a pfaltzgraff set that did and then a cheap stoneware set from Oneida/Safeway special before. Neither of those worked well for us.
My dishes are Fiestaware that I got as wedding gifts. It is sturdy and colorful and I love it.
I just got rid of my Pottery barn every day porcelain. They were beautiful but bulky and hard to put away. I don't like Corelle from a style perspective (not their patterns anyway), but my MIL love hers because they are light and easy to store and somewhat bullet proof. I went with a Mikasa, Lucerne White, bone china (no patten so dishwasher safe) and great for everyday. Bone china is really durable though most people think of it as delicate. Its way harder than porcelain. They are about as stream line as Corelle, but a bit more stylish. Don't know what you pay for Corelle, but I paid $160 for a set of 12. I'm very happy with my purchases and it fits in my small kitchen soooo much better than my old bulky bistro style dishes. I also looked and looked for years (at department stores and kitchen stores) before I found a set I was willing to purchase. Low and behold Costco carried the ones I bought, so I got a screaming deal.
I bought a set of porcelain salad dishes at Tarket and they chipped in my sink in a matter of months, so no more cheap porcelain for me. I'd rather pay more and keep my dishes for longer.
I have Fiesta Ware for my everyday stuff. I love it! I find they are durable and attractive. I can put them in the oven and the microwave, very convenient. I have lots of colors so that I can mix and match and they all look great together. I'm kind of eclectic like that, but you could certainly get all of one color! ;) Kohl's sells them by the piece and Macy's sells them in sets and they always have it on sale.
My china is Wedgewood. I put it in the dishwasher and just turn off the heated dry, that makes all china and crystal dishwasher safe, even if it has a pattern!
Most of my dishes were free with stamps at Albertson's. I had to have food - might as well get free dishes with it.
I'm not crazy about the color or the pattern, but all I use them for is to hold food, so it doesn't really matter what they look like.
For everyday dishes, I use IKEA. It has been very durable, and you can't beat the price. For our china, I have Lenox. It is beautiful, but expensive enough that I don't want to use it daily.
I like the ones from Williams Sonoma.
Or try Macy's.
I don't like dishes I have to store and use once in a blue moon. I wanted the ones that stack neatly and are dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. We got ours at Marshal Field's 9 years ago. They still look as good as when I got them. I would love some fiestaware though.
We got our everyday dishes from Crate & Barrel. They were a wedding gift 11+ years ago. They've held up great!!
We've had a set of Corelle (Calloway, I think) since we got married over 14 years ago. I love it. All of the plates and cups are in perfect condition with no chips or cracks. The only items that did not last were the glass tumblers. Those all broke within 2 years. Some were dropped, but others simply broke while being washed or used.
I also have a few stoneware items from Syracuse China in a similar pattern to the Corelle, only I think it is grape leaves instead of ivy. I got these from secondhand stores and eBay.
I'm not a fan of having separate "everyday" and "good china" dishes. Shouldn't everyday be special enough to use your good stuff?
I have stone dinnerware but my mom has Corelle. Maybe it's just me but I find that it makes a horrible sound when I scrape a knife on it. Also, the coffee cups are too thin to hold anything hot. I've almost burned my hand numerous times.
