Breast Feeding moms...is This a Period?

(Ok, So I lost my health insurance about 2 months ago, and I have yet to find a new affordable plan.) This morning I woke up and I was bleeding, not too heavy, but about what my normal "flow" used to be.
I am still breast feeding my 6 month old full time (with some solids mixed in). I was under the impression that I would get my period back until I stopped BF. I know all women are different, so it is possible, but I was hoping for some feedback from other breast feeding moms. When about did some of you ladies get your monthly visitors?
Also, another little tid-bit, last night I did have sex, I can not imagine that this is the source of the bleeding as it was nothing that normally cause bleeding, but it was the first time since I had the baby. Could this just be a coincidence?

I know that this is probably a question for a doctor, but like I started with, I do not have insurance at the time. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Mama's!

Hi C.
Don't know about the sex, don't think that would be the reason. But I had my period for the first time when my baby was 5 months old and I was breast-feeding full time
so... be ware ... yes you can get pregnant while breast-feeding!

While many women do not get their period until after stopping BFing, there are those unlucky few that get it prior. My cousin's sister, which both her kids breastfed for well over a year but got her periods like clockwork when the babies were 3 months old.

My first period started at a year. I was still breastfeeding, but it did start the morning after sex (not the first time we had sex after the baby though). I bet you were about to start and the sex maybe brought it along.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Sounds completely normal, though a bummer!

Hi C.. I have a 15 month old that I am still breastfeeding. I got my period when she was about 7 months old. All moms are different, but yes, you can get your period while breastfeeding. Good luck to you with this & the health insurance troubles!

Hi C.,
It happens differently in every case. I was one of those who got it early too. Even though I breastfed until 18 months, and didn't even introduce solids until almost 10 months, I got mine at around 7-9 months. It might even have been 6 months. It didn't effect anything, it just surprised me, that's all, especially since I was such a milk machine!
Oh, and mine starting had nothing to do with sex. Oh well.
Take care,
M.
