My hubby and I just found out that we are expecting baby #2. It was a bit of a surprise but we are very excited to add to our family. Does anyone have any fun ways to tell our friends and family that we are expecting again? I'm looking for something unique and creative. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Heres a cute idea, a friend at work found out that he was getting a second grandchild when his granddaughter came for a visit. She was wearing a t-shirt that proudly stated " I am a Big Sister! " I thought it was rather creative :)

We broke the news about baby #2 by putting an iron on decal on the back of our sons shirt at his first birthday party and just waited to see who noticed. it would work at any get together. it took people alittle bit to finally say something to my husband or I but once they caught on everyone was laughing.

I surprised my friends by interjecting it into a normal conversation one day. I had brought my 1st baby over to a friends house for a small gathering and they were just cooing over him and saying how cute he was...so i responded with "well, hey, wanna keep him? i've got a spare on the way in 9 months!"

At first they were confused and then after a second they realized what I had just hinted at and they all congratulated me. It was pretty funny to see their reactions.

One of my friends just did this - they had their 17 month old daughter break the news to the grandparents. They told their daughter that mommy would be having another baby and that the baby was in mommy's abdomen. After a bit of practicing, they would ask their daughter "where's the baby" and she'd run over to her mommy and point to her belly. The next time they got together with their family, they were all just playing together and asked their daughter "where's the baby", so you can image the family's surprise when the little girl ran over to mommy and pointed to her belly!

What we did, was went to wal-mart and bought a solid color shirt and tons of iron on patches for child #1 and we put on there, I'm the BIG Brother!
and had him wear it to the next family gathering and never said a word. His shirt did all the announcing for us!
It was great! He loved being a part of the BIG secret...
congrats!

With my second, I told my 8 yo with a big sister shirt on our way to my grandparents' house. She immediately went to the bathroom and changed into the shirt when we arrived. Then we took a gift bag with a bottle, bib, and other misc. baby items and she gave it to my mom at work as an early birthday present. Congrats!!!

Hi A.
When we were expecting our first child, we wrapped up one diaper in newspaper and wrapping paper(xmas) and told family that we had a back ordered xmas gift and we wanted to give it to them. A lot of family thought the newspaper had something to do with it and some were not sure what the whole diaper meant. It was fun to see how the family reacted.

Congratulations!! How exciting. As far as a unique idea, one of my friends announanced their 3rd by getting shirts for their other two saying "I am going to be a big brother" and then having their pictures taken and making a card out of it to give to all their friends. So they made a memory with the pictures of the kids and had a fun way to share with all their friends and family. Good luck and enjoy it because the 2nd pregnancy goes twice as fast!!

The way we did it when I found out I was pregnant with #2, was to have my then MIL open a present for my daughter. The present was a tee shirt that said, "I'm the big sister!". It took a few minutes for everyone to realize what the tee shirt said, but then everyone caught on!

Congrats!

You can get personalized M&Ms online. We were going to do this with our son but didn't have the money. With our daughter, we bought a plush car for my mom (she's into Dale Earnhardt) and said that her grandchild picked it out for her. "Grandma, I saw this and thought of you. Your grandchild"

With our son, we ended up taking a digital picture of the pregnancy test and mixing it in with other pictures and taking the camera to my husband's sister's house to show her pictures with the pregnancy test mixed in there. :) She got a kick out of it and was very surprised.

God bless,

My sister and her husband invited some friends over for a cookout the night they were going to break the news. She sat them down and my brother in law got the conversation toward Charades. "hey, remember that game?" something like that. Amy piped up and said "Oh! I've got a GREAT one!" and she began to mime the words "I've Got A Bun In The Oven"
They sat there perplexed for a minute, then finally got it.
Tons of screaming and hugging and crying. It was awesome!

Congratulations to your whole family!!

Here is what I did to tell my hubby. You could do something similar to tell others.

I made dinner. We had Baby back ribs, baby corn, tater tots and salad made of baby greens. Then for dessert, I made sugar cookies and made little legs out of pipe cleaners and we had Daddy Long Leg cookies for dessert! I made him figure out the connection.

Second time around, I took a hot dog bun and put it in the oven. I had something in my hands to "bake" and asked if he would open the oven for me. He didn't get it at first but, after a couple of "What is it? WHERE is it?" questions, he got it!

To tell my parents, we brought my mom a bouquet of flowers from "Baby Knotts". (Knotts being our last name! :) )
and bought my dad a t-shirt that said something about being a grandfather. With the second baby, I called and asked my mom if we could figure out a time for her to come and stay for a week with us. She started to come up with some dates and I said "No....I was thinking more around April 12th". She, slowly (mother's intuition) asked WHYYY???? I told her that I'd be needing some help around then and since she was at the birth of our first child that I wanted her there to see the next one born as well.

Also, my friend wanted a creative way to tell her friends and family. She asked for my opinion and we came up with several. Later that day, I saw the perfect gift for her. She was still thinking about it a week later when I gave her a T-shirt that said "Does this Baby make me look fat?" She wore it to the get together! Got to wear it through the whole pregnancy too!

Hope that helps and congrats!!!!!!

My sister got a Big sister shirt and we all went out to dinner one night and her daughter was wearing it.... It was very cute and like you it was a complete surprise to everyone! I was the first to notice that her daughter was wearing the shirt and I screamed OMG your pregnant! Of course the family was THRILLED!

I bought a picture frame (baby related)and put a paper inside where the picture was that said, "coming soon a baby near you! October 2006." and passed them out during Christmas.

Good Luck!!!

She put one of them all dressed up for Easter and then put individuals with the oldest child's picture first and wearing a t-shirt saying "biggest" then the youngest child secone wearing one saying "big" and then a picture of my friend wearing a t-shirt saying "smallest" with an arrow pointing to her belly.

With the first I got my mom a charm for her bracelet that said "I Love my Grandkids" she actually thought it said grand dog at first. With some others we "showed off" our new camcorder and then told them that the real reason we were playing with it was to get their reaction on film when we told them we were expecting.
With the second, I had some spotting so they did an early ultrasound and we used the picture to tell my parents. It came up with my husband's parents when I was offered a glass of wine and I had to tell them why I wouldn't be partaking.

for one of my pregnancies, I got a couple of small baby picture frames and framed the expected due date and gave the gifts to my parents and in-laws.

I had a friend buy a round loaf of bread and put it in the oven and take a picture of "the bun in the oven" and sent it as an e-mail with the subject line that said "Guess What" No other explanation or anything... That was funny!

I think some combination of the two would also be fun.

We just told our families bout our 2nd baby on Mother's Day. I ordered a shirt online that said, "I've got a secret" on the front and the back said "I'm going to be a big sister." (I just typed in big sister shirts into google and found tons of websites!) We then took our daughter to the local picture place and had her picture taken from the front and the back and then put together a collage of them both. We then added the due date to the bottom and framed them for the grandparents. We gave them to the grandparents at our family gatherings to open so everyone could see them. It took a few minutes for them to get the hint, but the reactions were loads of fun when they did! Congratulations to you!

With baby #2 we made a t-shirt for our first baby that said I'm going to be a big brother in June (the month baby #2 was to be born.) and we even put a picture of our son on it. We put another shirt on top and left it unbuttoned...it took them forever to read it.

With baby #3 we took a lot of pictures of the first 2 at the zoo and put them in a photo album. The last page said New Exhibit coming in April.

Both were fun!
Good Luck

Hi A.,
Are you gonna be around any dads besides the one that your with now?? Father's day is this weekend and I was gonna say, grab a few dolls, rattles, a diaper and a few other things just to make it kinda fun, wrap up like any other fathers day gift as a second suprise gift other than the one you already got or had in mind, than give it to your dad, his dad, your guy friends..ect...and let them open it, laugh and try to guess what its all about...I bet they'll get the hint when you get a little nervous, or grin and say surprise?! LOL...When we found out, we lived in another state and I believe it was close to mothers day when we found out..and he called his mom and said, "Happy Mother's Day Grandma!" At first she was a little confused and than she started screaming so excitedly!! LOL...He did the same thing to his grandparents, and his sister. His sister just had a little one a while back, and how she told her mom and dad was that she had boughten a few dolls and a rattle and put them in a paper sack and told them that it was just a surprise, and just for fun. So they opened the bag and sat there for a minute or two than was all giddy! I think this is one of the best ways to tell someone and fun as well. For other friends you can probably bake a cake or cookies or something along that line and put little babies that you can buy at walmart in the craft section for baby showers and put them on top after frosting them. They'll get it. LOL..Have fun and CONGRATS!!!

Hi A.,
Congratulations! I'm sure there are a ton of cute ideas. We tried 4 years to get pregnant and when we finally did we wanted to do something creative but inexpensive. We had our closest friends and family for a casual dinner then we pulled out dessert. It was a cake that was decorated with stick figures of a cute couple standing outside their house looking up into the sky. They were looking at a stork bringing them a baby. Of course they both had big smiles on their faces. It was so cute. We didn't say anything just put the cake out on the table and waited to see what everyone's reaction would be. It was awesome. Some got it right away and others it took a minute but it was really fun. L.

We found out we were pregnant 8 weeks into the pregnancy and it was March (back in 2006). Easter was right at the 13 or 14 week mark (safe time to tell people). So what we (I) did is made a little rhyming 1/2 sheet of paper and inserted them into those plastic easter eggs. We handed out the easter eggs on easter sunday...it was a hit.

If you can wait to tell people until closer to the 4th of July, perhaps you can do something patriotic...or next friday (June 20th) is the first day of summer...you can do something like the first day of summer is here and our new bundle of joy will be here in _______________. Or something like that.

I also like the idea of the shirt for you4 19 monhth old son to wear to announce the new baby.

Congratulations on baby #2. We were similar to the shirts, only with us we were ready to tell around our 1st child's 2nd birthday, so we wrapped a book "I'm the Big Sister" and had family come a little early and had her open it before the rest of the guests got there. She opened it and then passed it around, and it was so fun to see everybody's reaction as they figured it all out. Then the family had fun telling the rest of the guests as they arrived. Of course, then 2 weeks later they got the 2nd surprise via ultrasound photo that there were 2! That's where our biggest reactions came from as you can imagine. Congrats again.

After years of trying to have a child my husband and I just got on with life and as the story goes I got pregnant. We told two groups of our family and friends in two very different ways.

One group was a family event that a greeting card was a given, so I made cards for several others in addition to and I was able to cut and past the photo from my first ultra sound on the back with the wording something to the effect that we were expecting. That certainly got the party screaming with joy.

The second gathering was around exactly this time of the year and we took a baby shower cake for a dessert that we didn't bring out until it was time for the desserts. What a thrill to see the wave of "what is going on" looks and why did they bring a baby cake to our cookout, that came across our friends faces until the first one caught on that we were expecting. And again the screaming, tears of joy etc, which followed. We had so much fun telling people when the time was right. Enjoy your new bundle of joy and congratulations, K.

I had a friend that did something very cute. She put together a little album of her older child - I forget if they were birthday pictures or from some kind of recent event. Anyway, at the end were two ultrasound pictures. I was quite puzzled when I saw them, trying to grasp why they were in the album. Then I saw the date! It was a cool suprise. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to do anything like that. All I did was ask my sister if she still had any baby items left - (my husband's niece was expecting so we gave her items we had borrowed from her mother and loaned her some other items) I loved the expression on her face when she realized why I was asking! Good luck!

With this pregancy we had my son wear a t-shirt saying he was going to be a big brother and video taped my daughter singing at the fireplace. Everyone but my sister in laws were watching my daughter. My sister in laws who got it were jumping up and down and screaming. It was fun. When I found out I was pregnant with #2, I went to the hospital gift shop and bought a t-shirt for my older daughter that said "I'm the big sister." We took her to see our parents and grandparents all in the same day and just kept making a big deal about how much we loved her shirt until they eventually read it. Really fun.

Also...

With our third, I made home made greeting cards using scrapbook supplies and table confetti. I arranged letters on the front of the card to say "Coming Soon" and on the inside I simply put June 2008. Then I used all sorts of baby boy and girl embellishments and stickers and such to decorate it. Once I had it in the envelope, I sprinkled a bit of the table confetti in with it.
