Birth Control Pills Options

I'm 41 and have 3 kids and am perfectly happy, except for horrible PMS symptoms I get every single month prior to my period. I did not want to go back on birth control medz but feel like that's my only option to get rid of this PMS and horrible anger and rage that comes with it. I heard of Seasonique where you only get 4 periods a year, which sounds amazing to me. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with it and whether it was positive or negative. Also, does anyone have any other suggestions for birth control medz that would help with PMS, with little other side effects.

What can I do next?

A friend was recently telling me that she is on the nuva ring and loves it. Normally, you just insert one a month and leave it out for a week to have a normal period. However, her doctor said that she could immediately replace the old ring with a new one and skip the period altogether. I asked my doctor about the ring. She did not mention the option of never having a period. She did explain to me that the nuva ring keeps the estrogen levels steady, though, whereas there can be some fluctuation throughout the day with the pill. That may help if you have headaches or other side affects with the pill. Anyway, I hope the information helps.

I have the Mirena IUD and I absolutely LOVE it! I had awful, heavy, lengthy periods prior to this and they have decreased in intensity since I got the IUD. I still have PMS symptoms (which were really bad before) but they are significantly less also. There are some women who get the IUD and don't have periods at all. The IUD is good for 5 years and you don't have to get a shot, take a pill, or remember to do anything.

Best of luck!

I have used Seasonique (the generic version) for about 3 years now and I love it ! I haven't had a period in about 2 1/2 years. My doc is ok with it and I have my checkups every year. I don't notice any PMS symptoms and haven't noticed any weight gain. I know BC pills affect everyone differently but this is one that I have had the best results from !

I went on Seasonique after I had my daughter. I had a horrible experience with it. I was fine the first 6 weeks, but after that, I bled for 35 days straight. Sometimes it was as heavy as a period and other times it was just light spotting. I called my doctor and he said he has been hearing that a lot, but it does work for some women. I'm on Loestrin 24 now, but I haven't had my period yet to let you know about pain and cramping yet, but I used to have similar problems, so I'm waiting to see what happens. The only side effect I've notice so far is my breast have gotten bigger, but not enough to change bra size or anything.

Yaz has worked well for me. Their website even has a daily diary of common symptoms and helps keep track of your symptoms to help advise whether Yaz might be a good choice for you. It was very helpful for me. I was on the IUD-Mirena and it was making me crazy with horrible rages and anger during PMS. Apparently, my ob dr said that I am on the lower side of normal for my estrogen levels, so the IUD had way toooo much progesterone which was causing a great imbalance.
Sounds like you need something to help balance out your high progesterone, but I would talk to a dr. make sure you give them all those details about having horrible anger and rage because that is definitely hormonally specific. hope this helps
