Bike Trailer or Bike Seat?

Hi A.--

Our son is 17 months old and we have a bike trailer for him -- he loves it, and so do we. When the three of us go riding together (my husband, son and me), I can ride my bike up beside him and say hi or play games or point out things for him to look at. Just make sure you get a bike trailer that allows for the seatbelt to be used for one passenger, and make sure the trailer has a front flap on it for windy or wet days.

I don't like the trailers because they are to far away from you to see if they are ok. Plus they really don;t look that comfy.

I had a bike seat....and that just didn't work! Any of the kids movements affects your balance on the bike. (Yes, I'm a good strong biker - but I just didn't like his moving around!). So, we bought a trailer (just a Bell - found at Costco) and my son loved it! Then, when we had the second child, we added him to the trailer with the older child. They both loved it. The model we bought had 2 seatbelts, a wind/rain cover as well as storage behind the seats. I recommend going this route!

We bought a trailer last summer when our daughter was 12 months old. She loved every minute and we can't wait to get it out again this year!

I have used the bike seat and have had no problems. My son has been in it since he was one. He will be three in July and he loves going for bike rides. I like the seat because I feel I can better monitor what he is doing.

We have a trailer & love it!! I also think it is safer because if your bike ever hits the ground, the trailer stays upright. The trailer has seatbelts for 2 kids & can hold 100 pounds, and it has pockets and a pretty good size storage space in the back to pack snacks/drinks for your ride. Plus, you can also get the ones where the arm comes up & turns it into a stroller. I make my son wear a helmet too.
