Best Odor Reducing Diaper Pail?

What is the best diaper pail to reduce odors? We currently have the Diaper Champ, but the smells come out every time we add another diaper. I've tried adding baking soda in the liner & odor freshners. After a day, it's bad again. Since we're soon to have 2 babies in diapers, I'd really like to find one that works better.

What can I do next?

The best thing? Using the plastic grocery store bags to wrap and tie the diaper in and putting it in the outside garbage. I've tried them all - this is the best way.

When it's cold or I'm lazy, I put them in the tied bag and in the regular trash. It's not that bad there, just as long as they don't get abundant.

We've used the Diaper Genie II for the last 19mths and have been very happy with it. The only time it's stinky (for like 2 seconds) is when it's too full and you're emptying it out. But, I'd buy it again and again.

We put a trash can (with lid) on the back porch. We use it for poopy diapers only. The trash can in their bedrooms are only for pee pee diapers. This is the best decision I made when deciding what to do.

We use the Safety 1st diaper pail from B R Us. It is about $17, uses regular trash bags, and works great! We keep it in a wicker basket so it is not standing out in the nursery. ZERO smell! BRUs also has the deodorizer tablets. I think they are 3 for $2.

We had the same problem with our diaper champ after a year or so of use. Diaper genies sound expensive...especially when you factor in the bags you have to buy. I can be pretty frugal and wanted to avoid buying another pail. So I tried all the tricks to getting rid of the smell - nothing seemed to work for any length of time. Finally, I got ambitious and took a screwdriver to the lid. I took it apart to see if there was something in there causing it to stink. The plunger part has some foam around. I am sure this is to keep it quieter. I took that out and it was VERY stinky. I hand washed it with regular laundry soap. Put it back together and didn't have anymore problems. My SIL had the same problem after a while and washing the foam fixed it. I am using the old diaper champ again with baby number two - I'll try taking it apart if it gets stinky again.

We've used a Diaper Genie II since our baby was born at the end of January and have not had a problem like we did with our first born. We use the Diaper Genie brand liners and I placed a dryer sheet in bottom of can, but have not replaced. I would HIGHLY recommend this pail...easy to used and keeps the odors in!

Diaper Dekor from BAbies R Us. No smell. Very easy to use. People with Diaper Genie have commented that it is much better than the Genie.

Good luck.

We use The First Years Clean Air Odor Free Diaper Disposal by Learning Curve. And we only put the poopy diapers in it. We use pampers, so don't know if that makes a difference. And it only gets stinky foul when it is full and it tends to catch you off guard at that point! :) We love it!

BABY TREND!! The top doesn't open when you put the diaper in--you simply flip the top over and it's ready for the next one. Also, it uses regular 13 gal trash bags, so you don't have to go to a specific store to buy refills. However, no matter which on you buy, I recommend spraying the whole thing down with Lysol once a week, and buying a new one on your child's first birthday, because they ALL eventually stink!

we never realized how gross it really was to keep poop in the house at room temp (especially during the summer). When our second child was born 5 years after the 1st one, we just put a trash can out in the garage for wet and dirty diapers. We live in a one story and it doesn't take but about 5 seconds more to go throw it out there than in a pail in the baby's room - plus you don't have to worry about buying refills or even worse... emptying the diaper pail! We still do the same for our 3rd child. Good luck - hope you find something that works for you!

I used the Genie with my first and it was a pain to change the liners and you have to purchase their liners. With my second, I use the Champ and it does get smelly sometimes, too. I have tried baking soda and that does not work to get rid of the smell, but because of the easy change and the fact that I can use my own bags, I like the Champ better. Fortunately my son's rooms are in very close proximity to the door to the garage, so I can keep mine right outside the door and not have to worry about odor. Or maybe you can just use the diaper pail for wet diapers and put the soiled ones tied up in a plastic grocery bag and throw it in a trash pail that you can put in the garage.

I use the diaper genie II. I don't use their bags. I take the top ring off and put in a vanilla scented kitchen garbage bag overflowing the edges. Then I put the top ring back on. Every time I take the bag out, I spray the whole can down with Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface sanitizing spray and wipe it with a paper towel.

if you go to any cloth diaper website you can buy odor reducing tablets that sit in the bottom of the diaper pail. they really help with the odor. Also adding spraying some lysol each time you empty the pail works nicely too.

Try activated charcoal or carbon filters. I have found them in the pet store (cat aisle) and the charcoal granules in the fish tank area (they are black pebbles) by the fish rocks. I used activated charcoal in my kitty litter.

I'm a mama of 2 but use cloth diapers. I keep activated charcoal by the bag I store my dirty diapers in before I wash them. They are good for 2-3 days when I am supposes to wash them anyway.

Essential oils like tea tree or lavender work well. Just be sure they are true essential oils.

Diaper Genie II is great--although my daughter is now 1 and eating "real" food so we take the poopy ones and tie them up in a plastic bag from target or whereever you shop, and put that in the regular trash can. Since they only usually go #2 once or twice a day, it is not that big of a deal and it keeps the smells to a minimum.

They just don't work. Either keep a bag out of the way somewhere to collect a day's worth of diapers, then bring them out to the outside garbage in the evening, or keep the can outside-- maybe right outside the door, like in the garage. good luck.

The best way is to NOT store poop in your home. Put soiled diapers in a plastic grocery bag, tie it tightly and take it to the outside trash asap. Even the diaper genies have to be emptied at some point and fermented poop smells gross. I always kept a very small waste basket next to the changing table and lined it with the grocery bags, it's handy for the clean-up and then tie and dispose of outdoors.

I 100% recommend the Diaper Genie II diaper pail. It's easy to use and doesn't waste bag (unlike the original diaper genie). It holds odors in well (keep in mind that with ANY diaper pail, you're going to get SOME release of odor when putting in a new diaper...however, I've noticed the Diaper Champ is worse than most about lingering odor...just based on going to friends' houses who have one). It does require its own special liner but, as I mentioned, it doesn't require any twisting so no liner is wasted, so you don't go through them that quickly. I have 2 of them (one upstairs, one downstairs), and only change the liner once every couple of months. In the past I've bought Diaper Decor, which was awesome for all of 6 months before it broke and wouldn't hold odors in anymore (plus, that one was TOO easy to use...too easy for curious little hands to get to the cutter too...). I've also used the Safety 1st Neat diaper pail, and that one is just huge and clunky and also breaks. I've been incredibly happy with the Diaper Genie II and would recommend it to ANYONE.

Hi,
When DS was old enough to be making solid poop I would dump out the poop in the toilet. Then, you can put the diaper in the diaper champ with less odor. I don't know why people put poop in the trash when it can just as easily and probably more sanitary to flush it down. (It even says that on the Sam's diaper boxes.)
You may have a little residue of poop on the diaper but, I didn't notice a smell.
