Beach Vacation Ideas

My extended family is starting to plan a beach trip and I wanted to see if there were any suggestions of good places to visit that weren't over the top pricey. A little info about the trip: we typically rent a house as we have 17 people going: 9 adults 8 kids this kids bunk up together so we are looking at 5-6 bedrooms; and because of all the kiddos we like to have a pool at the house for early morning and pre-dinner entertainment, we usually stay a few blocks back from the beach to save on cost and are willing to drive up to 10- 12 hours. In the past we have gone to Surfside Beach, NC but aren't finding homes this year large enough for us. Any ideas or suggestions would be great!! Thanks!!

What can I do next?

We've always gone to Avon, NC. Colony Reality is the place we rent from-- they have some very large houses. Usually they don't have pools attached, but privileges at one of the town pools. It is a small town (grocery store, some shops and restaurants) so it's not far to the pool. It's a quite place (though not nearly as quiet as it used to be, which was deserted), so if you are looking for nightlife, you might look further up the island at Nags Head.

Another great family oriented destination is Bethany Beach, DE. It's right between Rehoboth and Ocean City, MD. We've only seen young families there, while Ocean City tends to be more for teens and young adults, it's only about 10-15 minutes down the road. We found Bethany to be a bit more relaxing.

Have a great time!

Hi there, for about 20 yrs now(on and off) we have been going to various locations on the Outer Banks. As the family has grown, we have had to get two houses next to each other, but we still have a great time. We also tend to go in mid June...right at the end of the off season. You can save quite a bit doing that. Good luck and have a great time!

The Outer Banks! We've been going with another family for the past 4 years. We stay in Duck, but I have a close friend who this year is getting a house in Corolla (just a few minutes further) and she typically has 15-20 people in their house. They have lots of oceanside and even soundside houses that are huge and since they're a few minutes further to the beach, less expensive. Also, the time of year makes a difference, as you probably know. We go in June before the rates go to their highest, but every house/realty company is different. Good luck finding something!

Have you looked into Emerald Isle, NC? We went there the last two years and it is a great family destination. Also, Avon, NC and Corolla, NC are areas with a lot of really large homes. I use www.vrbo.com instead of going through a real estate. You will save lots of money!
