I have a boy and I really don't have that feeling of something missing. How sad! Maybe a counselor could help you get through these feelings. It's really not fair to have a child for those reasons...

I would urge you to seek a counselor to help talk through some of your issues. Having a baby isn't about keeping up with your friends or putting them into cute little dresses.

I have two boys and, quite frankly, I'm now really happy I don't have girls. I mean, I can get all girly but I was never into make-up or dressing to the nines (although I do like shopping, dressing nicely on the weekends, and my mani-pedis and spa days). I'm relieved that I don't have to figure out how to teach a daughter those sorts of things because I would have felt like a failure (yeah, yeah I know not the best barometer of being a mom, but silly stuff like this would have gotten to me had I had a girl). I'm afraid I wouldn't have made a very good 'girl mom'.

I would love to have a girl, but I feel it would be unfair to my boys to say our family was less than perfect just because they have penises! Plus you can still be the mother you never had, just be that mother to those wonderful boys of yours!

Blessed Be

Hang in there - your boys will probably give you many grand daughters some day!!!! Then you can spoil them rotten LOL! Focus on raising your young men - they need you.

Nope, I had a daughter with my first marriage...she's now 25.

I have two boys. I told my husband I was all the girl he would EVER need. girls are a pain in the tuckus....

So maybe I don't count because I have both - but I much prefer boys over girls.

I wanted a girl so bad when my youngest was born, I cried when the doctors told me I was having another boy! I am soooooooooooooo glad that I had boys. I see too much drama with these boys; I could not imagine having a girl now. My boys, now men, are amazing!!!! I could not be happier that I was blessed with them. PS I can wait for granddaughters-I am enjoying the life I never had raising them!

I understand the desire for a girl, but the baby stage is very temporary. Girls are a LOT more work than boys IMO. And why can't you be the mother you never had to your sons? Maybe some counseling would help you work through your issues.
On a lighter note, maybe you could spend some time volunteering at the local high school or middle school. If you saw what those sweet baby girls eventually turn into you may change your mind!

I'll let you borrow my 8yr old daughter for a while... You'll change your mind. :)

I have one of each. I know what to expect from my son and I know I can handle the future broken bones, stitches, fights, a possible call from a police dept, etc... But I never know what my daughter will have in store for me. One day, she's sweet as can be, helping me around the house without even me mentioning it and going out of her way to make life easier for a weekend... Then... Holy terror... I feel like we're living the Exorcist film. Those are the days that I don't know how to handle. I'm a Tomboy in every sense. I cannot reason with a girl that is acting like a PMSing teen and screaming about her hair not doing what she wants it to do... Or the shoes she wants are not at our house, but at 'Momo's', daddy's, etc... And 'mommy, you HAVE to get them!' Or changing 8 times a day because she just doesn't know what she wants to wear... Nothing 'looks right'.

When she starts acting like that... I just walk away.

I just have my son, and he's such a wonderful kid I have no desire for any others, boys or girls.
You feel you are lacking something, but another child regardless of the gender might not fulfill your need.
How about you sign up to be a Big Sister to be a role model for a girl who needs it?

I'm expecting my 3rd girl and honestly, I was slightly relieved when the ultrasound tech said it was another girl. I know how to do girls, I don't have a clue about boys. I've noticed though, as we tell people, they get sad for you that your having a third of the same kind - honestly, we don't care - we were just relieved she is healthy (I was a little nervous as I'm 36).

Nope I have two girls and would be delighted to have another! Id be happy with a boy too, but another girl would be my actual 1st desire.

I totally get being the mother you never had, my mom died when i was 8, my oldest is 8 now. Im going to do all the things and be all of the things to my best ability that i yearned for in the absence of my mother.

I totally understand what you are feeling. I had a son first and was so happy to have a daughter second. I'm done with babies but if I could be sure I would have a daughter I might reconsider. It is up to you if you think you could handle another child to have a 50/50 chance at a girl...

I am 39 and married to my best friend for 7 years. We have two boys. I would love a girl, I was a girly girl and hoped and prayed for a daughter. We are done having babies and I love my sons more than anything. I still wish I could buy pink and still mourn the "loss" of a daughter. You are young - you could have another baby someday...and from your other posting today, it doesn't seem like you should be concerned with babies. Work on your relationship first. If another baby comes along someday, great. If not, you already have 3, be the best mother that you can be to your boys, even if it means hours of playing Star Wars and Transformers. As for me, I prefer legos! C.

I have a daughter (almost 8) and two boys (6 and 4). If i coul be GUARANTEED another girl, I'd have one so my daughter had a sister...but they'd be 9 years apart and then whats the point? Plus I don't ever want to really have a baby to get one or the other - I would feel so awful if I felt bad for not loving one as much because it wasn't the right sex. My neighbor is pregnant with her 7th, but had her 6th because she wanted a girl. She got one, but it's just nuts to me. I wanted 2 girls, but since I got 1 girl and 2 boys, I can't imagine life any other way :).

I am a mother to 2 girls. Everyone we know has boys! I would love to have a boy but I know I can not handle more than 2 kids. And I don't want to take the chance of having another girl!. I have a friend who has 3 boys and she finally had a girl. But I heard recently if you already have 2 children of one sex it is a 10% chance you will have the opposite. Girls are sassy, whinny and extremly emotional. you are not missing out.
