Definitely the Ergo! I tried 3 different ones, including hotslings and baby bjorn, but ended up with the Ergo and it saved my back. Plus I was able to use it until my son was almost 18 months, then he wanted to walk everywhere.

hotslings I used it with my little one with colic and that was a life saver. I was finally able to get things done around the house and my husband even wore it because he had a petite body and he loved it as well.

We used several different kinds of carriers but really loved the Beco Butterfly. It's very ergonomic and easy on your back. Several of the other ones we tried (sling, Baby Bjorn) were fine for small babies but started to put a lot of strain on your back once the baby got a little heavier. And the Beco is great because you can use it when you baby gets older, too, and it's still easy on your back.

Here's an awesome blog that describes different types of carriers, and good (and not so good) brands (http://betterbabywearing.blogspot.com/2010/03/babyweaing-.... Click on the "blog homepage" button and scroll down if an error page shows up, not sure why it's not working right. I LOVE my Kozy carrier (mai tei style, www.kozycarrier.com). I also have a woven wrap (from www.wearababy.com) but don't use it as much since it requires a bit more time to wrap up my wiggly baby (I love to tie it and use it like a ring sling, though). Make sure you find a carrier that creates a seat for baby (baby's bottom should sit below his knees), which will be much much more comfortable for both you and baby. My friends with back problems loves her Ergo carrier (http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/)!! I've heard great things about it. BuyBuyBaby sells it (you can use coupons!!).

You mention your baby has colic. I strongly encourage you to check out these websites. www.refluxrebels.com and www.marci-kids.com My YDS was originally diagnosed with "colic", but I pushed for an actual diagnosis since I knew something was wrong. We changed drs (we also had other issues with their old pedi) and he was diagnosed with acid reflux. Untreated, and undertreated, reflux can cause major problems. My LO went 4 months before being diagnosed and put on medication, and those were 4 months of hell (no other way to put it). Once he got a medication that worked for him (the first, Zantac did nothing; Prevacid Solutabs caused insomnia; Nexium worked miracles!), he was a completely different baby! I never even thought about reflux being the problem until a friend told me my LO sounded just like her son who had reflux. So I just wanted to let you know it may be more than just a fussy baby. Babies cry and fuss for a reason, and IMO, "colic" is just a vague "diagnosis" when dr's aren't sure why.

Message me if you have any questions about safe carriers or reflux. : )

I have a hotsling. I didnt love it for the newborn age. I also have a Baby K'tan and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Its very similar to a moby wrap. We can use it all different ways. Tummy to tummy is our favorite. My 21 lb 8 month old will still nap in it tummy to tummy with me when we are out and about.
