Am I First?

i know there will be tons of Thanksgiving "what are you thankful for" questions on here...i haven't even read through the others yet so if i am repeating, sorry!

every thanksgiving we are all reminded of all the blessings in our lives to be thankful for. honestly, i don't think i ever really "got it" until this year. my family has been SO blessed recently...and it is truly all God's doing and my heart is so full. i really truly feel the spirit of the season this year, so i wanted to ask, what are YOU thankful for :)

i am so thankful this year that after a very rough patch, and truly being ready in my heart to call it quits, god moved my husband to take that one step TOWARD me, that changed everything. our whole marriage has changed because he agreed to speak to my pastor. (hopefully in the coming year that will become "our" pastor). we are truly in a completely opposite place in our marriage than we were a month ago.

i am truly thankful and blessed because after being unemployed for almost 2 months, my husband was offered a permanent position with his old boss (he got laid off because his contract wasn't renewed, and was doing "temp/fill in" for them, which amounted to exactly three days in two months). he will be working 4 days per week. with the pay rate at that position that is enough to meet or exceed what i already bring home. a HUGE blessing. there have been times that my husband has been unemployed for up to 6 months, and sometimes when he's finally gotten a job it's been minimum wage, split shift, etc. i am SO grateful that this call came yesterday!

finally, i am most abundantly thankful for the faith this has begun to restore in me. after many years (all of my adult life) of doubting and flat out not believing, i started taking my son to my home church again about a year or so ago. we don't make it every sunday but i felt that even if my faith and beliefs were screwy and uncertain, at least i could provide him with the education that i received (since i was in no position to give it to him myself) as a child. i really felt it was important that he go. so we have been going. then i started tithing. the most amazing thing happened...all of these additional blessings came to my family. this isn't about god in a generic sense, where, i saw the light and started being a better person and suddenly i was showered with earthly rewards...this is very specific. i started going to MY church. i started tithing to MY church. i have always been spiritual, and i haven't really changed the way i live. i am a pretty good person who has always tried to do good. but this was different. it really is as if god was reaching out to me on a religious level.

so i am very thankful for a lot of things this thanksgiving. i know, we all are. but what especially are you thankful for this year? thanks in advance, can't wait to read the responses :)

So What Happened?

Aw, thank you guys! Jane i especially appreciate your words of encouragement. i know i'm not perfect and i'm never going to be but dang when things go right you just can't help but be grateful and HAPPY. i'm so happy for all of us to have so many blessings and appreciate them. i know what it's like to "be grateful" but really just on the surface...i guess you really do have to go through some trials to appreciate the good that much more, if you know what i mean. happy thanksgiving!

What a wonderful post! We too have been so blessed this year. The major things are:

--last week we were given our OB's blessing to begin trying to have children again (I had a partial molar pregnancy early this year, and had surgery/tests/more tests/then wait 6 months....it was a very long year in that sense), but we are so excited to start a family of our own
--my husband recently accepted a position at another company, and he's going to start toward the beginning of December. It's a really great move for him, and he is so happy....which makes me happy

I could go on and on about all the good things that have happened to our family. We always go around the table at Thanksgiving and talk about what we're thankful for....thanks for getting my juices flowing!!

I'm thankful for my life as it is...I really am! It is not perfect, but it's just right for me :) Congratulations on your newfound faith. Sometimes we feel as if our prayers are not being answered or don't feel like God is watching over us, but without fail he is there with a purpose. I have struggled with that ALOT in the past, but in the end...my prayers were answered with lessons of love and patience.

I am extra thankful for being back in Huntington Beach after a couple moves for my husbands company...never again! We're here for good and it feels so right!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh, very similar to what you said about you & your husband being thissuperclose to throwing in the towel, but then magically having it all turn around, that's us also. I am ridiculously thankful for that. I'm thankful that we've both got jobs & a roof over our heads. I'm thankful that our financial situation finally seems to be turning around for the better. I'm thankful that we've got our health & our kids are happy. I'm happy that the kids have finalized their Christmas lists so I can start shopping this week! ;)

This is a really good questions, who cares if someone else may have asked it before, if they did I didn't read it then either. I too have many things to be thankful for. My husband lived through a horrible accident earlier this year, and was not hurt at all. My kids are growing and maturing. I am able to pay my bills every month. I can walk. I have a nice family, and they will all be filling up my house tomorrow. My house smells good, with all the pies cooking. And I can move my arms and fingers, to write this to you. I also wanted to say to you, Adansmama, that I have been keeping up, with your story. I am thankful that things have turned around in your life. That is a true blessing, and something to be very thankful for. I hope you have an awesome holiday!!!!

Hello! Nope, not the first!! But that's okay!! Reminders of what we have to be thankful for are ALWAYS a good thing - doesn't mean just at Thanksgiving - it's ALL YEAR LONG!!!

THANK YOU!!! for posting this story!! I love the news you got today!!! THIS IS WONDERFUL!!!!

I'm thankful for many things - God has worked in my life in MANY ways not just this year but throughout my life.

On a material level? I'm thankful for the roof over my head, clothes on my back, food in my belly and in the pantry...

On a non-material level? My husband (who is not perfect and can still drive me insane but he's perfect for me!!), my children - again who are not perfect - but have soooo many wonderful attributes, personalities and on and on and on...

I'm thankful for my best friend, Judi, who has been with me for 35 years through thick and thin, ugly and beautiful, rich and poor - sounds like a marriage doesn't it?

My family - I've got GREAT parents!!! They have set a wonderful example of marriage, love, commitment, sacrifice, giving, the whole gamut..still married over 50 years. I've got a wonderful sister, brother, niece and nephews...and extended family?!?! God has provided me with a bounty!!!

My friends - I have a wonderful set of friends. Again - my bounty is full.

I'm so glad that God has become a different/better presence in your life! That's something to cheer about!! YAHOO!!!!

I too am thankful for the rough patches in life - it shows me who my friends are, where God is in my life and what He has helped mold me to be!!!

I have had so much cause to realize over this last year just how incredibly lucky I am, and I have been trying to consciously be thankful for something every day - be it my adorable children, my husband's screwball sense of humor, or just a beautiful sunset. I am trying to deserve that good fortune, partly by passing it on when and where I can, and partly by being grateful.

Posts like yours, by the way, are something I am grateful for; it makes me glad to see someone who is happy. I have always worn my faith comfortably - like an old sweater - it's not shiny or fashionable, but it fits me and it's cozy. I'm glad you are finding comfort and warmth in your faith now, too. Congratulations on all of your blessings, and wishes to you for many more.
