Activities for 1 Year Old - Portland,OR

Library story time is SO fun for mom and kiddo! I also just went to the park regularly and chatted with other mom's, I met my best friends this way and it morphed from park meetups, to playdates, to activities on holidays (making V-day cookies, and 4th of July parties), and our kids became the best of friends while us moms did too!

Check out the library for story times, or local children's museums - many have some interactive parts. We also love the Zoo and the park on nice days. Swimming is always fun too - indoor or out.

I loved taking my little guy to the library and picking up a couple children's books, then walking around and looking at displays, noticing simple things about them. At this age, children still thrive more on parental attention and aren't really able to 'be friends' per se, but they might be interested in observing other children their age too. We didn't do any classes or organized activities, but did have a couple playgroups to attend every so often. And if he's happy sitting in your lap, even your local coffeehouse will be interesting enough for him.

Storytime at the library is a good option. Depending on where you live, you may even be able to attend at 2 different libraries and go 2x per week. The children's museum is a huge favorite of most kids (even that young). Mall play areas are fun. Joining a playgroup or even MOMS club international.

Some thoughts, though definitely not an overscheudle-y to do list :)
Music Together.
A local children's museum or zoo.
Art or science museum.
Certainly library or bookstore storytimes.
The park (maybe regularly enough you start seeing some of the same families).
Parent and baby swim class.
