6 Y/o Boy Birthday Goody Bag Ideas

I need suggestions on what to give out at my son's 6th birthday party. I don't want to make goody bags. I just want to give out ONE item /toy. I also don't want to go much more than $3 a kid as we have a good number of kids attending. I was thinking a light up sword or something like that but I can't find them that cheap. Any ideas???
Thanks.

What can I do next?

Balloons. Really. Use them as decoration, and then give one to each kid as they leave. Trust me.. most kids' parents do NOT want the kid coming home with a bunch of junk in a bag, nor candy, or even necessarily a less junky toy. A balloon is perfect. Kids like them. And they are disposable. They go flat by the next day or three and go right into the trash. No finding a "home" for it. No feeling guilt for not wanting to keep it. And no sugar. Kids get enough sugar with cake/ice cream/ drinks.

If you want, get a tootsie pop and tie it to the end of the string, both as a treat and as a weight to hold the balloon.

Gotta be helium filled though. :)

I don't like goody bags full of landfill toys either. Here are a few things I've done:

1. BPA free themed water bottles from party city (approx $1 each). I put some themed pencils etc in them due to time of year.
2. Containers of sidewalk chalk from target (party isle are about $1.50 a piece. I took glued a cute thank you note over the wrapper
3. Sand toys - cheap at the dollar store or michaels
4. A matchbox car
5. A water gun

I like doing beach balls. You can get some really fun ones from Oriental Trading. They even have different sizes. I often check their "Less Than Perfect" link. Sometimes they have some great deals on things I never would have thought of, and I often don't care about whatever it is that's wrong with them.

My son just turned 8, and those goody bags had a beach ball (big hit), a pair of sunglasses, a pencil and fruit snacks.

At one party we went to our son got an inflatable sword.
Those things were the hit of the party and he hung onto it for YEARS!

At $10 per dozen you can't go wrong!

If you don't want to do it or don't have the money to do it then don't do it. I have never done goody bags and my kids have gone to parties and have not gotten them. I think they are a complete waste. So I would not stress about it but I know I'm in the minority. JMO. Good luck.

I got light up toys for favors for my son's 6th birthday last year. They were a huge hit! I got the headbands with light up horns, the light-up squishy necklaces, and the magic wand spinny things, they all worked well and came with batteries.

i love that at least a few parents are bucking the 'goody bag' trend, and commend you for at least reducing it to one single item. good for you!
i don't think there's anything wrong with the full-sized (or giant) candy bar. parents can have their kids put it aside until they want them to eat it, and can always break it up if they want. WAY better than tons of crappy plastic junk. if you can't find a light-up sword for the right price (most kids would LOVE it), you can get tubes of a dozen light-up bracelets for a buck each at the dollar store, and kids do love 'em.
so do i.

I would NOT do anything. I think kids are happy with a party period. And most parents don't want yet another thing in the house. I think we as parents are pressured into doing the goody bag/toy/whatever thing because everyone seems to do it. But if you ask most parents, no one really wants to do it. It's all adult induced pressure. How about we just all decide that goody bags and prizes are a bad idea and stop with the nonsense???

What is your son's party theme?
One year my son had an angry bird party, and Five Below just happened to have small stuffed angry birds that I gave out.

Since then, I have bucked the trend, and I don't give out party favors. The kids don't actually seem to notice. And as a parent, I know the toys that come in those bags usually go in the trash within days so I don't think the parents mind that their child doesn't get a bag of useless stuff. So, I really think it's ok to just skip it.

When our daughter was little, I didn't like a goodie bag full of junk.

I always got 1 item for the guests.

One year I found art sets for $5 each and gave that with a $1 coloring book
Bubbles
Sidewalk chalk
gift cards for ice cream shoppe
sand bucket and toys
books

I hope you find something you like. If you have time, check out Oriental Trading Company. I get the glow necklaces and bracelets for Halloween every year. Also try Michaels and the dollar store for ideas.

What's the theme of the party? We did a dino party once where the kids all tracked their own inflated dinos and then took them home.

Give each kid a full size candy bar. Everyone likes candy bars, and once they eat it they aren't stuck with plastic junk. My kids love getting a full size bar because that is usually the only time they get a full size, not Halloween size.

Really depends on the theme of the party-if there is one. I do hate the bags of junky toys and candy.
For my daughters first I made edible jewelry kits-o shaped cereal and gummy candy with shoelace licorice and elastic for cord. They were a huge hit and some parents called to ask how I did it so they could "steal" the idea. For her 5th I had a piñata and that was the take home. I handed each kid a bag and poured more goodies out after the piñata broke to ensure everyone got some.
Buy some fleece and make superhero capes-there are no sew templates avail on the Internet.
Give every kid a mad libs book.
I have a small printer that links to my digital camera ( I Still have one, lol). I plan on using it to print a pic of each child during the party and placing it in an inexpesive or card stock frame.
I would not appreciate my kids coming home after eating cake with a full size candy bar!

Dollar Store - Bubbles - usually 3 to a pack. Sidewalk chalk, often 4 packs to a box. Kids like that stuff, regardless of age.

Bubbles are always fun. For boys this age (or a boy party), I gave them each a Hot Wheels car. You can get really fun different ones at Walmart for $0.97 each. (Even the girls like the cars since they can play with the boys and you can get fun bright-colored ones.)
