My daughter had a nasty cold when she was about a month old. i was freaking out! I called my doc and my mom and my sister. they all told me the same thing. Run a cool mist humidifier in his room when he is sleeping. Prop his mattress up a bit with a blanket so he's not laying flat. DO NOT use vicks vapor rub. If he spikes a temp over 102, call the doc.

There is a possibility for every child to get sick and it is heartbreaking to us mamas! Does he sound phlegmy? Like he has mucus clogged up somewhere? You can always try running a humidifier in the room he sleeps in. You can also take him into the bathroom with you and run the shower really hot. Just sit on the toilet or a chair and hang out in the bathroom so he breathes in the steam. If it's dry then I'm not sure what would be recommended. If you're nursing then just make sure to nurse as much as he wants and as often as possible. It probably makes him feel better for one, gives him all the good stuff, and will help keep him hydrated. Hope he's feeling better soon!

The first thing I thought of when I read your post was that he may have acid reflux. It's very common in babies, and the doctor can give him medication to control it if necessary, but you can do things like try to keep him upright (like in a bouncy seat) for 30 minutes or so after he eats, or raise one end of the crib mattress so he doesn't lie as flat. See if that helps with the coughing.

He might also be going through a growth spurt as well, which does happen about 6 weeks. That would account for the more frequent feedings and extra sleep.

Of course, if the symptoms continue or get worse, bring him back to the doctor and if you don't like what he says get a second opinion!

Go with your gut.
If you think something is wrong, take him back to the doctor.

if he is eating less, but demanding more per feeding then
chances are good that the little guy has congestion, despite what the doctor says its never JUST anything when they are little.first thing, clean the vents in his room, by wiping them down inside and out with vinegar and water, then put the curtains in his room in the dryer on FLUFF for ten minutes. give the area around the windows a quick wipe with vinegar and water.put the curtains back up, close the windows, set up a steam ventilator and then bring the little guy bring in his room, while trying to get the extra grit out of his nose. then, take a day or two and see if he is still clearing his throat, if he seems listless, or feverish, take him in, TO A DIFFERENT DOCTOR

It's probably just a cold. It's super important, expecially you have kids to do a lot of hand washing in your household both you and guests. And I know it's tough, but ask people to watch the kissing...

Colds affect little babies wore than older ones because their nasel passages are so small. That's why new babies sneeze al lot. The only thing you really need to watch is that cough. Coughs can turn very dangerous in babies very quickly - strider, croup - do a little research on these, and listen closely.

If he feels badly, that's why he is sleeping more, and if he is congested,it is probably hard to suck and thus he needs to eat for a shorter amount of time but mroe frequently.

IF his appetite decreases, you need ot ocunt wet diapers and call the doctor. That could be the flu.

Medication (other than Tylenol for feversI is not approved any more for that age. Use the cool mist humidifier - it really does help both for comfort and white noise. Try not to worry too much, jut be attentive to changes in his behavior. Enjoy youn new son!!

Greetings F.,
There could be a number of things but one thing could be smoking or smokers. Even though they're in the other room or out on the deck they still send the toxins through your home and carry them in their clothes, hand, on the face. Same if you're carrying him around in a smokers car. The other thing is has he been exposed to other people. His little body has to build up resistance to the elements unfortunately the way our bodies accomplish this is through exposure which is like 6 in one hand and a half of dozen in the other. You worry to death about your baby but it the only way to build up his immunity system. Just keep an eye on his temperature and his diaper to make sure he's peeing frequently. Keep him hydrated. Dry diapers are a sign of dehydration. One thing I am personally worried about is this upcoming flu season. Try consulting with your pedi/go online to see what you can do to help protect you and keep you well. That'll give you protection thus protecting your son. Although I understand your worries he'll be okay and if ever you feel uneasy take him to the doctor/hospital right away. I wish you the best with your new baby

At 6 weeks old I would first suspect a growth spurrt 6 weks is the first big one 3 months iss the next. If you are breastfeeding I would say that's probably all it is. Even if you are formula feeding that's probably all it is. Has he receNtly started daycare or anything like that. With it being a clearing throat kind of noise however it could be a dairy issue. If you are breastfeeding cut out ALL traces of dairy read labels be super careful and see if that helps.

Saline drops and humidified cool air. I also used/use the vick vapor plugs, the menthol is soothing and it helps to breath. I am not a fan of plug in smelly things, so I just bought the pads and set them on a paper towel near the kids. The important thing, especially for little ones, is to keep their noses clear, try saline drops to help fluch the gunk out of the nose, and if it wakes him up at night use the steasm from a very hot shower and sit with him in the sitting up position to make him comfortable. I try to avoid using medicines, if at all possible, and my kids are older now. So I use homeopathic and non invasive aids. I do not use medicines unless I have tried everything else.
Something else to think about, what do you clean with and wash the clothes with, some kids are very affected by the toxic products that most stores sell. I personnlly use all natural products and they have helped alot for my family.
I hope that this helps.
