My 4 year old son has been having accidents 3-4 times a day, he was trained right before his 3rd birthday. He is also always thirsty. The latest symptom is he woke up all "wiggly" he couldn't even walk he was so shaky. Any ideas on what could be going on? Diabetes does run in the family, he was tested a year and a half ago for low blood sugar but it was okay. Gonna try to get him in to the dr. but would appreciate any advice in the mean time!

What can I do next?

I'd take him to the doctor to have him tested for diabetes. Diabetes is too serious an illness to wait out and see. At least if he checks out fine for that, there are other things you could look for, but having accidents and always thirsty are big warning signs for diabetes. And in a child the age of 4, SO MUCH can change in a year and a half. That is like a 40 year old saying, "well, I was tested for it when I was 25, and I was fine." Sorry to say, but schedule an appt. asap.

I advise getting into see his doctor immediately. Is there a family member nearby who has a glucose monitor? If so and you can't get into pediatrician today, see if you can borrow a monitor and check his blood sugar. If it is high, go to an ER to get immediate treatment.

I would take him to the DR Asap. All those symptoms are associated with diabetes, and since you said it runs in the family that could be what it is. Good luck!

Hi J., Get him to your DR. ASAP!! Those are classic diabetic symptoms and a test so long ago tells you nothing. If he does have diabetes go to Amazon.com and get the book: The Born-Again Diabetic by William 'Lee' Dubois. It is an amazing book written by a diabetic educator who is also a type 1 diabetic. It is a down-to-earth book that will give you the information you need and that your son will need as he grows older and needs to understand what being a diabtic is all about. You can also find this book at www.redbloodcellbooks.com it is $20. Best of luck, I hope it isn't anything more than a simple infection! If it is, feel free to message me here on mamasourse I'll help you as much as I can...diabetes can be very scary and it helps if you know someone to talk to! Best wishes

Yes, he should be checked by doctor, but maybe he is just having a week or so that he is having accidents with just normal potty ups and downs. Did he have a change in schedule or anything?
