3 Month Old Teething?

My 3 month old DD has had a bit of a rough start. She has a metabolic disorder, which has caused some intense Reflux due to her special food she must eat. Well before the reflux was treated she cried daily for HOURS. She finally got on Prevacid and was the happiest baby on the planet!! Anyways here lately it seems like if you handle her the wrong way some days she just bursts into tears. I notice this is most intense after she has a fist knawing session, or wants to chew on my finger. If I move my finger away from her she just breaks down screaming. Could this be teething? She seems so young! Any other time she is perfectly happy unless I see that hand of hers going into her mouth then it is a few hrs of her screaming on and off. Any ideas? Could her reflux still be bothering her? The spitting up is not 100% gone, and sometimes she looses part of her Prevacid due to vomiting.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for all your great advice!!! We went out of town this week, and she was just as pleasant as could be!!! Then we got back home and it started again??? Well I think it was environmental because I took her out of the house this afternoon to run to the library and return something and she was just as cool as a cucumber! I guess she was stir crazy just like the rest of us, and needs some fresh air! Plus I gave her a bit of tylenol when she started the other day and that helped! Thanks again!!

Most definately she could be teething. My little one received her first two teeth at three months old. Get some orajel and help her out. I found the little q-tips filled with the baby orajel worked best, along with cold wash cloths. My daughter got all her baby teeth in by 18 months old. Don't forget the tylenol too! You can also look for little white spots on her gums, rub your finger on her gums and if you feel anything rough, it's probably a tooth. Hope that helps!

Hi there,

My son and daughter both started teething around 4 months, so I would assume that it is possible she might be teething. However, you still may not see the teeth break through for a couple of months. Each child seems to be different. The "fist knawing" would indicate to me that she is teething, and if she is crying then she is probably in some pain and might benefit from some Tylenol. Another thing you can try is to take a baby washcloth wet it, squeeze out the excess water, fold in into a small square and freeze it. When the water in the washcloth is frozen you can give her the washcloth to chew on. This could help with gum irritation. Hope this helps.

It could be a number of things from what you metioned to colic. Reflux caused this for us with my son and it started about 3 months of age. That is what is my son did, like your daughter.

And it is not to early to start teething either,Both of my kids started teething early on but did not get teeth for months after. If she can hold things now get some teething rings and throw them in the ice box and let them get cold and then give them to her.Or frozen waffles work just more money spent. You can freeze the teething rings too.If she doesnt hold things that great you can hold it.

Try some Mylicon over the container gas relief,And get something from the doctor as well. She might even have hurting in her belly and the best thing is move her legs as if she were riding a bike.Make sure you bring her knees up to push on her belly.Use some calm soap and lotion.

Treat her for colic and see if that helps...

Good Luck

We use to do the "test" to see if our son was hungery. We would put our finger on his cheak and if he latched on we knew he was hungrey. He didnt do this unless he wanted some food. He would also get ahold of a cloth and bite down really hard again letting us know he was hungary. Try uping the formual. I think the 3 month was when we were suppose to upgrade the nipple to a more rappid flow and we uped the ounces given. Good luck.

Well, I certainly think it's possible she could be teething since my daughter got her first teeth at 4 1/2 months old. Try some teething tablets or tylenol to make her more comfortable or just give her a cold washcloth or teething ring.

As for the reflux. You may want to discuss the dosage with your pediatrician if you feel like that may be the problem. My son who is 2 months old is also on Prevacid and they have him on 1/2 tablet per day now, but said they may have to increase the dose as he gains more weight. The spitting up won't go away with the medication. It's the pain associated with it that is supposed to subside. I guess you'll have to keep a closer eye on her and try to decide if you think the fussiness is associated with the reflux. She also may be tired. I know that when my son gets tired and I don't pick up his cues early enough, we have a huge screaming fit before he goes to sleep. Good luck! Sometimes we wish they could talk so that we would know what was wrong, but then they start talking and never stop and we wish they could be silent again!! :-)

I have a daughter that is age 23 now, but when at the age of 3 months, I was nursing her and she bite me. My husband stated she could not have teeth, so I told him to let her bite him. This happen and every child is different. Hang in there and have you tried (Malicone)for your baby reflux? This is for small children and helps with gas on stomach.

Yes, this is normal... I would try these great natural homeopathic teething tablets you can get at the pharmacy. It has helped my 5 month old alot. The brand I use is Hylands and I put 2-3 under her tongue. She does the same thing with her fist. The good thing about these tablets you can use them frequently and it helps the baby rest better. As opposed to orajel leaves there mouth numb and they can not drink as well.
I also still use them on my 2 year old who is cutting molars.
