2Nd Crib Bumper??

My 8 mo old is starting to stand up in her crib so we had to lower the mattress. When she is trying to stand up- she bumps her head on the top side of the crib above the existing bumper. I ordered what I thought was an additional bumper to put on top but it ended up being VERTICAL bumper for each wooden vertical slat. I thought I was getting a bargain but now I'd have to order 20 more to get the job done! Anyone know of a solution? Should I just get another bumper to put on top of the existing one? Thanks in advance to all!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much to all of you!!! I won't get the 2nd bumper after reading your answers. She's very determined and will try a dozen times to get up and bump her head but already since I posted the ?- she's gotten better at it & isn't bumping nearly as much. Glad I didn't spend the extra $ that I don't have. You guys are awesome!

Once she starts to stand up you should take the bumper out of her crib so she doesn't learn to stand on it and climb out of the crib. She will learn not to bump her head after a few bumps. And the few bumps will not do any permanent damage.

I would say don't put up the extra bumper- it only reduces air flow inside of the crib which isn't good.
At 8 months if she's starting to pull herself up, its OK to just let her. It helps with building muscle and it will give her lots of practice time- so don't worry if she bumps her head while doing it- its all practice at this point and chances are she's not doing it hard enough to hurt anyway- otherwise she wouldn't be doing it. :)
Congrats on another milestone with your little one!

It's ok to let your baby bonk her head. It wont give her permanent damage or anything. You really should take down the bumper because babies can use i as a step up to climb out. So that is what I would be more worried about.
If you still don't want her to hurt her head back in the day they would put what is called a pudding cap on a babies head to protect it. Google it and you might be able to find a modern version of it. I've seen one somewhere.

I think by the time you get this solved, it won't be an issue anymore. She will quickly learn to stand up without bumping her head. I wouldn't purchase anything.

From what I've read, crib bumpers are no longer considered safe.

My little one would always fall down and bump her head and have bruises. So I just put a second bumper and tied it right on top of the other. It worked out perfect and she didn't fall and hit her head anymore.

I would get a "breatheable bumper" that collapses when they step on it. If you pit another bumper up, not only does it limit air flow, but it is only a matter of time before she learns to climb them both right out of the crib!

This is just me, I know people use them. I would not put bumpers at all. I know she is 8 months now. However, studies have shown that bumpers can suffocate a child all the way untill even 1 yrs old. And with her moving around so much it can be more harming then not. I rather have my child have a few bumps then accidently getting really hurt. I never used them and don't recommend anyone using them. Sorry, if this did not help you. But, when I read your question I had to say something for her sake.

Kids aren't stupid - she'll stop bumping her head if it hurts. Some children have to do things multiple times to figure it out, others just a few. I've seen boys run in to a wall. Ouch. And do it again to see if it hurts again. That's just what some kids do - we have to let them figure some things out on their own - it's now or later.
